I learned the lake is divided by the california nevada border and we were on the Nevada side. About 20 attendees. We stayed at the retreat center Zephyr Pointe. Really fun event and very well organized for a first time event. I can only imagine how much work was involved. At the retreat Deb (meedah1) taught us how to make Japanese Short Rows. So easy! This is going to be my go to short row technique from now one Socks: Using Red Heart Heart and Sole in colorway Black Jack. Finished first sock and knitting on leg of the second sock. Mountain High: Heidi Kirrmaier. Using my handspun Flowers From My Garden. Cast on before heading to retreat but made a mistake. Suppose to cast on with larger needle, switch to smaller needle for nine rows of garter stitch, and then switch back to larger needle. I knit it all with the larger needle. Then got to the retreat and tried to do short rows. Oh boy, what a mistake. My counts were way off. Came home and unraveled the whole project and started over. Deer Scarf: Ben and his roommates rescued a concrete deer lawn ornaments. I am making a red scarf for the deer to wear this holiday. Added fringe to beginning edge and knit about 48 inches. Weaving Studio: It's a work in progress. Kelly's Projects Izzy Bears are finished and dropped off at school! Weaving in ends on the Lace and Fade Boxy by Joji Locatelli. Using a merino silk handspun along with a skein of Sincere Sheep Vernal (silk/linen). Love the sweater, love the fit. Finished Combing the remaining CVM. I've brought it in for fall spinning. Natural Dyeing Experiments Toyon gave me yellow and orange depending on how long I soaked the leaves. Dried tan oak leaves from a long ago camping trip and walnut leaves from the backyard gave me light brown so I'm letting it continue to soak this week. Lambtown Festival Lambtown is October 4-5 (workshops start Oct 2) in Dixon, CA. Home-A-Long October 1st to December 31st We haven't had a contest for knitters or crocheters in a really long time. It's time to make that right with a Home-a-Long. Make a home decor item in your craft of choice…knitting, crocheting, weaving, or any way "you can think of to play with string." Some ideas for projects could be pillows, afghans, rugs, towels, teapot or mug cozies, potholders, dishcloths, bags. The sky's the limit!

Weather, tomatoes, and the usual project updates. Both of us are getting ready to go to fiber events. Thank goodness for fiber events and fiber friends. I wove a bird's eye twill which falls in the Diaper category. Halfway done with fringe. Hard to find time to work on the blanket. The fringe maker I ordered is a life saver! I still need to wash. Garden Cardigan by AnkeStrick. Using Kelbourne Woolens Scout in the colorway Moss Heather. Complete back to armholes. Picked up stitches for right front. Spindrift Shawl by Helen Stewart. Using by handspun from a braid by Alexandra Art of Yarn Socks: Using Madeline Tosh sock in the colorway Plum Tree. Finished first sock and cast on second. Garden Redesign: I've created a project page. More plants and "finalize' design fence on deck and railing Kelly's Projects Corrie x BL fleece leftovers are finished. I have big chunky puffy yarn! And that fleece from 2016 is now totally removed from my inventory! The red-orange poppy colored Boxy sweater has a finished body. I'm finishing up the ribbing at the bottom, doing a split hem in 1x1 broken rib. Naturally dyed blanket warp is on the loom and ready to thread. I'm doing twill. Planning for Alice Jacket hit a snag. I think I might buy yarn for the main color since I didn't have enough of any one color for the main color. I considered doing body and sleeves in different main colors, but not loving that idea. 2KnitLitChicks Retreat Lake Tahoe, NV September 24-27 Lambtown Dixon, CA October 3-4
It's beginning to feel like fall. Kelly is back in school, our tomatoes are screaming to be picked, and there is lots of fiber prep happening and maybe a little discipline, too. We also discuss planning for possible new projects. I finished making the fringe, wove in the ends and corrected a few mistakes. I used a plastic storage bin filled with hot water and Dawn and then climbed in and stomped on it like grapes, then rinsed and dried. I did this twice to get the fulling I liked. When the blanket was dry I then brushed with a stiff brush. Surprising how much effort it took to full the blanket. Can't do that with merino sweaters! I love the blanket and how the washing and fulling soften it. Dimity, Diaper, Damask Blanket: I wove a blanket using 5 colors of warp and a single color of weft. I wove a bird's eye twill which falls in the Diaper category. I've woven in the ends and started the fringe. The fringe maker I ordered is a life saver! I still need to wash. Garden Cardigan by AnkeStrick. Using Kelbourne Woolens Scout in the colorway Moss Heather. Spindrift Shawl by Helen Stewart. Using by handspun from a braid by Alexandra Art of Yarn Socks: Using Madeline Tosh sock in the colorway Plum Tree. Finished first sock and cast on second. Silver Bags: Sewing bags with pacific cloth to protect silver. Sounds posh. 😉Experimenting with the embroidery feature on Bernina to make a label to identify contents. Patio Furniture Pads: I've sanded, primed and applied three coats of paint. The paint is really hard to use and get a smooth finish. Coverage is terrible. I was trying to get the chairs done before the garden party but gave up…not enough time and I had to pick my battles. I'm not happy with the paint finish so decided to take a break and figure out what is best to do. Weaving Studio: It's a work in progress. Garden Redesign: I've created a project page. More plants and "finalize' design fence on deck and railing Kelly's Projects Finished charity hat #8 for the year using the leftovers from the hat I made in Vermont. Both were brought to school for the free table. Still poking along on the red-orange poppy colored Boxy sweater made with spirit yarn (Shibui Pebble). Some progress at Dr. visits and hospital related to Robert's gallbladder removal. Almost finished with the body Finished the East Friesian singles for weaving. Almost 400 grams of yarn that will become a blanket. Lots of fiber prep is in various stages of the process. Planning Alice Jacket. Naturally dyed blanket planning has begun. Corrie x BL fleece leftovers are being spun on the Salish spinner. 2KnitLitChicks Retreat Lake Tahoe, NV September 24-27

We talk about our projects, including fleece preparation and spinning. Kelly questions Marsha's plans for a sweater from longwool. What do you all think? What should Marsha do with the not quite 700 yards of yarn that didn't come out the way she planned? Marsha's Projects Compass Moon Creations: Finished! About 500 yards of about DK or worsted from 10 ounces of merino in a blue/green. Realized that when pulling from inside and outside, one single ends up with more twist. Harder to spin. Sheridan Flats Spinning: Finished! Purchased 24 oz of 80/15/6 wool/mohair/silk roving in the colorway Kaleidoscope. The owner said to spin at a worsted weight for best results. Mill is Olympic Yarn & Fiber located in Cosmopolis, WA. I was really surprised that I ended up with only about 650 yards of worsted weight yarn. I overplied the first skein but ran it through my wheel and took out a lot of the twist. Looks and feels so much better. Trillium Lake by Kay Hopkins: Using Queensland Collection Coastal Cotton Fine. I'm getting close to finishing. Putting in the purl rounds of hen and then will bind off. The sleeves should go quick as there are just a few rounds of stockinette and then ribbing Mellow Mood Top: by Julia Piro. Merino, silk, and flax palate cleanser skein. Hipstrings fiber, Alpine Spring colorway. About worsted to aran weight. Spun the box of merino silk batts that we carded right before NoCKRs.
