Cassö - From Bedroom Edit To A Billion-Stream Hit

To The Beat Podcast

Show Notes

What happens when a record you made in your bedroom becomes a global phenomenon? On this episode of To The Beat Podcast, Connor sits down with DJ/Producer Cassö, to discuss the story of one of dance music’s biggest breakout records and explore what happens when overnight success changes everything. We dive into the story behind ‘Prada’ - from an edit created in Cassö’s bedroom while at university, to spreading organically through SoundCloud and TikTok before becoming a global hit and amassing more than a billion streams. Cassö opens up about the surreal experience of suddenly finding himself at the centre of the dance music world, the pressures that came with that success, and what it was like being thrown into the deep end of the music industry. We explore the challenge of following up a record as successful as ‘Prada’, managing expectations, dealing with the pressure to replicate a huge hit and navigating the fear of being labelled a ‘one-hit wonder’ and learning to measure progress beyond streams, views and viral moments. Cassö also reflects on how attention-driven platforms and social media can affect an artist’s wellbeing, creative focus and perception of their own progress. He explains the decision to move away from his previous label setup and launch his own imprint Double Dot, giving him the freedom to release music on his own terms while developing and establishing the club sound he wants to be known for.

What should artists post on social media and how can they tell whether it’s actually helping? On this episode of To The Beat Podcast, Connor sits down with social media and marketing specialist, Sam Nahirny. Sam has strategised, shot and edited content for some of the biggest names in dance music. We explore what it takes for independent artists to cut through in today’s crowded digital landscape, diving into how artists can find a content style that feels authentic to them. Including how to build a social strategy around meaningful fan relationships rather than follower counts and views; why Sam believes your song deserves multiple opportunities to find its audience. We break down the importance of hooks, watch time and audience fit, as well as how tools such as Trial Reels can help artists understand what connects with their audience and learn from their content performance. And for artists working with limited time and resources, Sam shares how to make the most of a small budget with practical ways to get more from what you already have - from repurposing existing shoots and making accessible video content to using targeted promotion effectively.
