Creative Curiosity

A conversation about creative influences and aspirations with Hannah Fitzgibbon

Creative Curiosity

Show Notes

I loved this chat with Hannah the other week. This episode was run a little different, this time with my guest Hannah asking questions. This conversation reminded me of my uni days when we would discuss ideas around art, the meaning of it, criticisms of it etc. Hannah also offers a creative coaching service for artists who are on the journey. Be sure to check her out on all social media: @hanfitz.creates nga mihi 🙏🏾😊

Two key lessons I've learnt that have helped make my work better, more fulfilling, and my own. I talk about the accumulation phase as an artist and the phase where you strip back and start focusing on what you deem important. What's also exciting is there's always another accumulation phase because you're always ignorant at something. It's my job as an artist to follow my curiosity and find what I seek. Please consider subscribing if this resonated with you. Hau.

Note: This episode was recorded 2 years ago on January 27th 2023, not 3 years ago like I say in the podcast. I consider Tawhanga one of our very best artists specialising in Māori art including moko, carving of many forms, painting, digital, clothing, and many more. He's unique and stands out from the ever growing crowd of Māori artists. Be sure to follow him on Instagram: @rauruarts I hope you enjoy this conversation with him as much as I did. Hau.

Some of the milestones I've encountered along my almost 19 year tattoo career. The most important lesson I've learned so far is coming up with a clear process to share with my clients. This helps bring clarity to both of us. It's about knowing what to say no too and what to say yes too. More details in the episode.

The podcast is back and I've got a more broad idea of what I want to do with it. There's no pressure on it to say anything in particular. I want to trust my curiosity and talk about stuff I think is cool and interesting in my creative mind. Sometimes I'll talk to others, most times I'll probably be by myself. This is a place I'll share my most detailed and unedited thoughts on stuff I find interesting.
