What was it like teaching Michael Jackson how to dance? Popin Pete is a legendary dancer and original member of the Electric Boogaloos, the groundbreaking group that helped pioneer popping and boogaloo dance styles. Pete became one of the dancers Michael Jackson sought out to learn from, giving Michael private dance lessons and working alongside him on projects including Beat It, Captain EO, and Ghosts. On today’s episode, Pete takes me behind the scenes of his relationship with Michael and we talk about Michael’s incredible ability to learn, his love of street dance and why he wanted to help showcase it to the world, and what it was like working with him on CAPTAIN EO. We also talk about Michael Jackson and women, his deeper voice, and more hilarious and unexpected personal stories. This is one of my favorite interviews about MJ to date.
