Jets Game Night Host on CJOB Kelly Moore & Toronto Star's Kevin McGran (10/23/26)

The recent trade of goaltender Connor Hellebuck has sparked mixed reactions among Winnipeg Jets fans, according to Kelly Moore from CJOB. While some believe General Manager Kevin Sheveldayoff made a poor decision, others feel he secured a reasonable return given the circumstances. The trade, which included players like Dawson Mercer and Alexander Command, is noted for its rarity, as marquee goaltenders are seldom available. Moore suggests that the divided opinions reflect the broader sentiment in the community, with some optimistic about the future and others critical of the timing and execution of the trade.

Kevin McGrann from the Toronto Star offers a neutral perspective, comparing the situation to past trades involving elite goaltenders like Patrick Roy. He emphasizes that Sheveldayoff likely secured the best deal available and highlights the potential benefits of the new players brought in, particularly in stabilizing the second line. McGrann also discusses the recent performance of the Toronto Maple Leafs, noting the positive impact of Kirill Marchenko, who is seen as a valuable addition to the team.

As the Jets prepare for the Heritage Classic against the Montreal Canadiens, excitement builds among fans for both the alumni game and the main event. Moore notes that this year's festivities differ from past events, focusing on the current Jets rather than the original franchise. The anticipation is palpable, with fans eager to see familiar faces like Dustin Bufflin return to the ice. Both teams, currently struggling in their divisions, are expected to bring a competitive edge to the outdoor matchup.
