Residue: A True Crime PodcastShow Notes
In this special bonus episode, I join my friends Natalie and Paige from The Murder Diaries for a deeper conversation about the life and tragic murder of actress Rebecca Schaeffer.
We talk about Rebecca's rise to fame, the obsessive stalking that preceded her murder, and the devastating events of July 1989.
Rebecca's story is heartbreaking, but it is also an important reminder that behind the headlines was a young woman with a promising life and career ahead of her.

Freddie Prinze was a pioneering stand-up comedian and actor who achieved meteoric fame in the 1970s before his tragic death at age 22. Proudly identifying as a "Hungarican" due to his Puerto Rican and German-Hungarian heritage, he became an overnight sensation after a legendary 1973 performance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. He solidified his status as a cultural icon by starring as Chico Rodriguez in the hit NBC sitcom Chico and the Man, popularizing the catchphrase "Looking good!". Despite his massive professional success and the birth of his son, future actor Freddie Prinze Jr., Prinze struggled privately with severe depression and substance abuse, which tragically culminated in his death from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in January 1977.
Today we talk about a 1963 horror movie. We dive into Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds and the real-life mystery that may have inspired it. We'll also be chatting about the making of the film, fun facts, and a little bff talk ;)
The 2009 Balloon Boy incident became one of the most shocking media stories in American history when Richard and Mayumi Heene claimed their six-year-old son, Falcon, was trapped inside a homemade helium balloon floating across Colorado. As emergency crews and news helicopters tracked the balloon, millions of people watched in fear, believing a child’s life was in danger. When the balloon landed, Falcon was nowhere to be found, but he was later discovered hiding in the family’s attic. The incident took a disturbing turn when investigators concluded that the event had been staged for publicity, leading to criminal charges against his parents. The Netflix documentary Trainwreck: Balloon Boy revisits the bizarre hoax, exploring the family’s motives, the media frenzy, and how a supposed rescue mission became a nationwide controversy.
The 2011 Lifetime movie Girl Fight starring Anne Heche was inspired by the disturbing true story of Victoria Lindsay, a 16-year-old Florida cheerleader who was brutally attacked by her friends in March 2008. The assault was recorded, and the footage became part of a national media frenzy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
