Fad Gadget - ”Under the Flag”

Pod Like a Hole

Show Notes

The year is 1982 and Frank Tovey (aka Fad Gadget) releases the album "Under the Flag", a thematic record tackling the stress of raising a child in a world of increasing threats of fascism. We discuss the history of Fad Gadget and Frank Tovey and give this record the Track-by-Track treatment. It's an important record to electronic, industrial, and synth pop genres, and a milestone for co-host Eric. Will the others like it? Hate it? Dance? Cover themselves in shaving cream and feathers.....and more importantly, dear listener, WILL YOU? Listen and find out. This episode concludes our discussion of The Cure and this Pod Like a Hole season by analyzing the album Disintegration. Do we end the season on a sour note, or do we find ourselves whisked away to a world of wind chimes and thunderclouds rumbling in the distance? Just like one of the themes of the record, everything must come to an end. We thank you, faithful listeners, for following us as we talked for countless hours about our favorite music, artists, and bands in what felt, at times, a neverending project. We ain’t quite dead yet though. Stay tuned. All good things…

This is the second of the two part Songs in the Key of Life episodes on the Pod Like a Hole Podcast. Picking up with Isn't she lovely, the hosts go deep into their notes and feelings about the second half of Stevie Wonder's opus Editors note: This is the last time I drew the straw on editing an episode. We only have a handful left before wrapping the show up. YEARS of staying up late and cutting the conversations together of Eric, Marc, and I always re-reminded me why I've been pals with these guys for years. It was a joy and I'll miss doing it.
