A new episode from Elpodcasters with Dr. Wassim El Sisi, where we talk about the history of Iran from its ancient beginnings all the way to the shape of the modern Iranian state, and how political, religious, and military transformations have shaped the entire region up to today.
We start with ancient Iran, exploring the origins of Persia and the Achaemenid Empire, then move to the era of Alexander the Great and the fall of the Persians, followed by the rise of the Sasanian state and the major transformations that changed Iran throughout history. We also discuss how Islam entered Iran, and how the country gradually became a Shia state. 🏛️
In the part focused on modern Iran, we talk about the name change from Persia to Iran, the oil crisis, and the political shifts that paved the way for the Iranian Revolution, along with their impact on Iran internally and on the region as a whole.
The episode also discusses Egypt’s historical role in the region, the idea of peace and political balance, and opens an important conversation about Egyptian civilization and its influence on other civilizations, raising the question: can we really say that civilization began in Egypt? 🌍 We also reach the Iran-Iraq War and its impact on Iran’s modern history, then give a clear summary of Iran’s story from after the war up to the present day, to better understand the full picture in a simple and connected way. At the end of the episode, Dr. Wassim El Sisi shares personal stories, experiences, and meaningful reflections on the impact a person can have on those around them.
