Summary
Marketers are increasingly vocal about "bull spend," a term used to describe advertising budgets allocated to metrics that appear impressive until scrutinized by financial officers. This sentiment is echoed in discussions among professionals who emphasize the need for tangible results over superficial metrics, advocating for a focus on revenue rather than mere impressions.
In the realm of astrophysics, the longstanding quest to understand dark matter faces new scrutiny as researchers explore alternative theories of gravity. The concept of Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) proposes that gravity behaves differently at various scales, potentially eliminating the need for dark matter. While initial versions of MOND struggle to align with established physics and fail to account for certain astronomical phenomena, recent advancements aim to refine the theory. A new relativistic version, dubbed Relmond, suggests that gravitational behavior can change over time, potentially addressing some of the limitations of earlier models.
Despite these developments, the debate between proponents of dark matter as a particle and advocates of modified gravity theories remains contentious. The complexities of cosmic structures, such as the bullet cluster, continue to challenge both perspectives. As research progresses, the scientific community remains divided, with many experts leaning towards the dark matter hypothesis while acknowledging the intriguing possibilities presented by modified gravity theories. The resolution of this debate could significantly impact our understanding of the universe.

What if our understanding of gravity is just wrong? New work is taking another shot at that Einstein guy. Let’s see if we’ve finally scored a hit with Modified Newtonian Dynamics aka MOND.Sign Up on Patreon to get access to the Space Time Discord!https://www.patreon.com/pbsspacetimeCheck out the Space Time Merch Storehttps://www.pbsspacetime.com/shopSign up for the mailing list to get episode notifications and hear special announcements!https://mailchi.mp/1a6eb8f2717d/spacetimeHosted by Matt O'DowdWritten by Matt O'Dowd Post Production by Leonardo Scholzer, Yago Ballarini, Pedro Osinski, Adriano Leal and Stephanie FariaGFX Visualizations: Ajay ManuelDirected by Andrew KornhaberAssistant Producer: Setare GholipourExecutive Producers: Eric Brown and Andrew KornhaberEnd Credits Music by J.R.S. The fundamental nature of gravity still eludes our best minds - but those secrets may be revealed by turning back to the Cavendish experiment. That steampunk contraption may even reveal the existence of extra dimensions of space.Sign Up on Patreon to get access to the Space Time Discord! https://www.patreon.com/pbsspacetimeCheck out the Space Time Merch Storehttps://pbsspacetime.com/Sign up for the mailing list to get episode notifications and hear special announcements!https://mailchi.mp/1a6eb8f2717d/spacetimeHosted by Matt O'DowdWritten by Katie McCormick and Matt O'DowdGraphics by Leonardo Scholzer, Yago Ballarini, and Pedro OsinskiDirected by: Andrew KornhaberCamera Operator: Bahaar GholipourExecutive Producers: Eric Brown and Andrew KornhaberEnd Credits Music by J.R.S. To support your local station, go to: http://to.pbs.org/DonateSPACEOur universe started with the big bang. But only for the right definition of “our universe”. And of “started” for that matter. In fact, probably the Big Bang is nothing like what you were taught.A hundred years ago we discovered the beginning of the universe. Observations of the retreating galaxies by Edwin Hubble and Vesto Slipher, combined with Einstein’s then-brand-new general theory of relativity, revealed that our universe is expanding. And if we reverse that expansion far enough – mathematically, purely according to Einstein’s equations, it seems inevitable that all space and mass and energy should once have been compacted into an infinitesimally small point – a singularity. It’s often said that the universe started with this singularity, and the Big Bang is thought of as the explosive expansion that followed. And before the Big Bang singularity? Well, they say there was no “before”, because time and space simply didn’t exist. If you think you’ve managed to get your head around that bizarre notion then I have bad news. That picture is wrong. At least, according to pretty much every serious physicist who studies the subject. The good news is that the truth is way cooler, at least as far as we understand it.Check out the new Space Time Merch Store!https://pbsspacetime.com/Support Space Time on Patreonhttps://www.patreon.com/pbsspacetimeHosted by Matt O'DowdWritten by Matt O'DowdGraphics by Leonardo ScholzerDirected by Andrew KornhaberProduced By: Kornhaber BrownBig Bang Supporters:Anton LifshitsDavid NicklasFabrice EapJuan BenetJustin LloydMorgan HoughQuasar Supporters:Mark HeisingMark RosenthalTambe BarsbayVinnie FalcoHypernova Supporters:Chuck ZegarDanton SpiveyDonal BotkinEdmund FokschanerHank SJohn HofmannJohn R. Boosters, dead satellites, and sometimes even old space stations get dropped out of the sky fairly often. While the litter seems a little inconsiderate, this is probably far safer than the alternative. The accumulation of space junk poses a huge risk to all human operations in space especially if we cross the threshold into the chain reaction of exponentially growing collisions known as the Kessler Syndrome.
