Our host, Stuart Broadley, is joined by Brock Falkenhagen, Vice President of FULKRUM, and Muhammad Tayyab Javed, Regional Manager for the Middle East and Caspian, for a conversation on people-first leadership, international expansion and the changing opportunities across the global energy supply chain. They explain how FULKRUM has built its business around a distinctive company culture, prioritising talent, inclusivity and long-term career development to differentiate itself in a competitive market. From cross-border mentoring and employee engagement to developing future leaders, they share how investing in people has helped the company double in size over the past three years. The discussion explores FULKRUM’s growth across the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and Iraq, and the importance of local partnerships, regulatory compliance and workforce development in establishing a lasting presence in the region. Against the backdrop of geopolitical conflict and project delays, Brock and Tayyab discuss how the business has navigated uncertainty, supported its teams and identified opportunities in markets including Brazil, Nigeria and Namibia. They also examine FULKRUM’s diversification into asset integrity management and infrastructure, alongside its ambitions to expand further in Asia and China. At the heart of the conversation is the connection between culture, resilience and sustainable growth. The guests reflect on the importance of staying committed to regional markets through challenging periods, building trust with clients and developing local talent. With energy demand continuing to rise and new projects moving towards investment decisions, they share why they remain optimistic about the Middle East’s long-term prospects and how a people-centred approach can help businesses adapt, diversify and grow.
What Is the EIC?
The Energy Industries Council (EIC) is one of the world’s largest energy trade associations. As a not-for-profit organisation, it supports more than 950 member companies involved in the global energy value chain. EIC operates internationally, with offices in London, Kuala Lumpur, Rio de Janeiro, Houston, Dubai, and soon, Berlin. It is energy agnostic, supporting all parts of the energy sector. From mature renewable onshore and offshore sectors like wind, solar and hydropower; to grid infrastructure and large nuclear; to hydrocarbon sectors like oil & gas, LNG, FPSO, decommissioning, upstream, midstream and downstream; to emerging low-carbon sectors like hydrogen, carbon capture, CCUS, energy storage, BESS, biofuels, SAF (sustainable aviation fuels), and geothermal.

In this episode. Our host, Stuart Broadley, is joined by Jan van der Tempel, founder and CEO of Ampelmann, for an in-depth conversation about entrepreneurship, business transformation and the strategies behind building a successful global energy technology company. From developing a motion-compensated access system inspired by flight simulator technology to returning to lead Ampelmann through a challenging period, Jan shares the story behind the company’s evolution and the lessons he learned along the way. The discussion explores how Jan reshaped the business by bringing teams closer to customers, introducing modular product design, expanding operational support across global hubs and moving beyond a rental-only business model. He also explains the company’s shift from hydraulic to fully electric gangways, a technological advance capable of reducing energy consumption by 80–90%, depending on vessel configuration. With applications across oil and gas and offshore renewables, Ampelmann’s journey highlights the importance of turning engineering innovation into practical, scalable solutions. At the heart of the conversation is what it takes to lead a company through change without losing the spirit that made it successful in the first place. Jan reflects on the challenges of returning as a founder, learning to lead a larger organisation and bringing people along with a shared vision. He also looks ahead to new opportunities in offshore logistics, including drone-based cargo delivery to wind turbines, and explains why keeping the entrepreneurial spirit alive is essential to long-term growth.
