Charlie Rose: In-Depth Interviews of Americas Best

Summary

Ohio veterans express their discontent with Senator Sherrod Brown, accusing him of prioritizing taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants over the healthcare needs of veterans. They argue that while they served the country and earned their benefits, Brown's actions suggest a betrayal of their sacrifices. The veterans emphasize that their healthcare should take precedence over benefits for undocumented individuals.

In a separate discussion, former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle reflects on the need for President Barack Obama to adopt a more conciliatory approach in his remaining time in office. He stresses the importance of effective communication and collaboration between Democrats and Republicans to achieve meaningful policy changes. Daschle suggests that while Obama should honor his commitment to take action on immigration, he can do so in a way that also seeks common ground with the opposition.

Daschle also comments on the role of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, advocating for him to be more accessible and proactive in fostering bipartisan relationships. He recalls his own experiences with past presidents, highlighting the value of direct communication in overcoming political barriers.
