Show Notes

In 1983, Zhuo Changren orchestrated mainland China's first successful aircraft hijacking, flying a passenger jet to South Korea before being sent to Taiwan, where he was celebrated as an anti-communist hero and granted a large financial reward. After squandering his wealth on failed underground investments and falling deep into debt, Zhuo orchestrated another crime in Taipei in 1991 by kidnapping and murdering the son of a hospital vice president. Following a decade of legal proceedings, he was executed in Taiwan in 2001, leaving behind a trail of ruin for dozens of people in his mainland hometown who were imprisoned or disciplined for their associations with him.
