Summary
Tarek Skubal's injury history is a significant aspect of his career as a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2017 while at Seattle University, which impacted his draft stock, leading to a ninth-round selection in 2018. After making strides in his major league career, he faced another setback in August 2022 when he had surgery for a flexor tendon injury, causing him to miss the remainder of the season and the first half of 2023. Upon his return, he performed well, posting a 2.08 ERA in the second half of 2023.
In May 2026, Skubal experienced elbow discomfort again, leading to surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow. This procedure allowed him to return to the mound quickly, and he continued to pitch effectively for the Tigers before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Throughout his career, Skubal has faced multiple injuries involving his left elbow, raising questions about his long-term durability and ability to make consistent starts in the coming years. Despite these challenges, he has shown resilience and the potential for success in the major leagues.
