“I Was Not Prepared for Priesthood" — Purity, Identity & the Glory of God | Fr Jacob Magdy | EP 20

Christianity is making a comeback—but why are young people returning to faith and the ancient Church?

In this powerful and deeply personal episode of The Salt Podcast, George Iskander and Simon Thomas sit down with His Grace Bishop Daniel, Bishop of Sydney and Affiliated Regions of the Coptic Orthodox Church, for an open conversation about faith, leadership, criticism, repentance and the future of Christianity.Bishop Daniel takes us back to his childhood in Sudan, his journey from civil engineer to monk at the Monastery of St Anthony, and the extraordinary circumstances that eventually led to his ordination as the first Bishop of Sydney. For the first time, His Grace also speaks openly about some of the most difficult years of his episcopacy — including criticism directed towards him, a six-year investigation that was ultimately closed, and why he made the decision to remain silent rather than publicly defend himself.“Rest assured, I love you.”That is his message to those who have criticised him.The conversation then goes deeper into some of the biggest spiritual struggles facing Christians today:Can bishops and church leaders make mistakes? How should Christians respond when they disagree with Church leadership? What should you do when you feel you have betrayed God?Can someone trapped in the same sin for years truly change? How do we fight pornography, lust and temptation in the modern world? How should Christians respond when Christianity is publicly mocked? What should Christians do in times of war and uncertainty? Why are people increasingly looking back towards ancient Christianity and Orthodoxy? Is salvation guaranteed, or can a Christian fall away? What does it truly mean to be the salt of the earth?Bishop Daniel also shares remarkable stories from his monastic life, his encounters with some of the great spiritual fathers of the Coptic Church, and the lessons he has learned through decades of ministry. His message throughout the episode is simple: have hope, repent without delay, resist sin, trust God and remain close to the Church. And for anyone who feels trapped by sin or believes they have gone too far to return to God, Bishop Daniel gives a powerful reminder:The door of repentance remains open. This is a conversation about the man behind the title of Bishop — his struggles, his faith, his critics, his mistakes, his love for the Church and ultimately his desire to hear the words:“Well done, good and faithful servant.”Welcome to The Salt Podcast with His Grace Bishop Daniel.Follow us:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thesaltpodcastlive/Website: https://www.thesaltpodcastlive.com/🔗 Stay Connected With Us.Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheSaltPodcastLive/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thesaltpodcastlive/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thesaltpodcastlive Twitter (X): https://x.com/saltpodcastlive 📩 For business inquiries: [email protected] 🤝 Our Partners & Sponsors🤝 If you’d like to support the podcast, you can grab our merch here: https://www.thesaltpodcastlive.com/storeYour support helps us continue producing and sharing these conversations.
