Fundraising for innovative social change sometimes involves innovative fundraising approaches. At Unfunded List, we often run into social entrepreneurs who believe their first funding will come from a major well-known foundation. This is almost certainly not the case since major foundations like to fund established programs that can prove their impact. But how do you raise seed funding to test your idea? The panelists in today's Symposium on Unique Fundraisng Models all have answers to that question and are here to introduce themselves and share their stories about unique ways to fundraise for new ideas. Moderated by Sarah Hillware Founder, Girl's Health Ed & Senior Consultant to World Bank/WHOPanelists:Chris Trull, Fundraiser for Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-WI)Peter Williamson, Kettering Philanthropies & Founder of Game Genius, LLCMali Locke, Director, Milken Institute Center for Strategic PhilanthropyEarn your "degree" in non-traditional fundraising, nonprofit management, or grant writing by attending the next Unfunded University! Nonprofit consulting, grants consulting, philanthropic advising, strategic consulting for nonprofits. Whatever it's called it's a growing part of the social sector and many members of the Unfunded List community are participating in in consultancy in one way or the other. Some are considering entering the field of consulting others considering hiring consultants. Others are currently in consulting engagements and want them to be successful while others are simply curious about the sometimes vague but often impactful field of consulting. What can two of the architects of modern philanthropy teach us about its future?
What if our best intentions aren't enough? In this episode of Open Door Philanthropy, Margaret Chapman sits down with Susan Davis, author of Bullshit Without Borders: Let's Change the Way We Change the World, to explore the uncomfortable truths about international development and philanthropy. Drawing on more than three decades of experience across nonprofits, foundations, USAID-funded programs, and the global water sector, Susan challenges us to rethink what it means to help. Together, they discuss power, accountability, locally led solutions, and how donors and practitioners can move beyond charity as usual toward more effective and equitable approaches to social change.
