Coffee & Football: Texas vs. Mississippi State

Jeff Howe and CJ Vogel go to the film to explain how Steve Sarkisian finally unleashed Arch Manning’s legs in Texas’ win over Ole Miss. From an empty-formation split-zone conversion to his first rushing touchdown of the season, Manning’s decisiveness and power gave the Longhorns a short-yardage weapon they had largely ignored through the first six games.

Jeff Howe, Bobby Burton and Rod Babers debate which Longhorns have become indispensable as Texas navigates major injuries to Colin Simmons and Trevor Goosby. Bobby makes the case for Ryan Wingo, Jeff highlights Jermaine Bishop’s offensive upside and Rod explains why Jelani McDonald’s versatility makes him an ideal centerpiece for Will Muschamp’s evolving defense.

Good morning everyone! It's time for OTF's Coffee & Football, where we dive deep into the hottest Texas Longhorns football news, recruiting updates, and so much more that you won't want to miss!

Jeff Howe and Rod Babers go back to the film to explain how Will Muschamp dismantled Ole Miss without Colin Simmons. Texas used a three-safety structure on more than a third of its defensive snaps, confused Trinidad Chambliss with constantly changing coverages and generated eight pressures from the back seven. Raheem Biles, Justin Cryer and Jelani McDonald headline a performance that revealed just how adaptable this defense can be.

Jeff Howe, Jordan Scruggs and Hank South examine what remains for Texas after landing linebacker R.J. Hudson. The Longhorns are pushing to pair him with Georgia Tech commit Jason Crenshaw Jr., but the biggest offensive prize may be Louisville receiver commit Ja'Hyde Brown, who leads the nation with 28 touchdown receptions through nine games.
