Reading the Rainbow

Show Notes

A triangle requires each corner to connect to two others, so if you have a romance where there are two of three parties who don’t have feelings for one another, what you actually have is a love angle. Xiran Jay Zhou however, knows exactly how triangles work in Iron Widow, the first of their YA SF duology. Wu Zetian is out for revenge for her sister’s death in this fascinating mash-up of historical and mecha sci-fi. Join cohosts Cas and Amber as they discuss the accuracy of depicting disabilities, societal structures that enforce misogyny, the abuses inherent in economic disparities, and of course, the only correct love triangle.

CW: violence, suicidal ideation, discussion and references to sexual assault (though no on-page depictions), alcohol addiction, torture, physical and emotional abuse, trauma, foot binding
