They can knock you down, but they can never knock you out — FT. Kendall Toole

too much.

Show Notes

Some people you meet in your life and you just know they’re built differently — not because everything is easy for them, but because they keep showing up anyway. This week, Kendall Toole is in the Too Much studio to talk about the moments that knocked her down, the ones that almost knocked her out, and how she rebuilt into the version of herself she fought for. If you know Kendall from Rumble Boxing or her rise as a Peloton instructor, you’ve seen the highlight reel. This episode is the real story — the one underneath the bubbly-on-camera version. Kendall opens up about growing up with OCD, depression and intrusive thoughts, how “achievement = worth” became her default coping mechanism, what her darkest season looked like in college at USC, and the words that changed everything: “They can knock you down, but they can never knock you out.” Something that carried her through became a community, a mantra, and eventually her next chapter as a founder. Emma and Kendall go down the rabbit hole about what healing actually looks like, why a regulated nervous system is a flex, and how adopting a beginner mindset can be the most underrated form of mental health “exposure therapy.” Content warning: This episode includes discussions of depression, intrusive thoughts, and suicidal ideation. Please take care of yourself and skip if this isn’t a safe listen right now. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 (U.S.), contact local emergency services, and check out resources via NAMI and Project Healthy Minds.

Welcome back to another episode of ASK EMMA — and just to warn you, apparently, today, she's had just about enough of everyone's b*llshit. This week, Emma is going down the rabbit hole into the messy, uncomfortable, and sometimes totally degrading realities of modern dating, relationships, and friendships. From the classic debate of right person, wrong time to why emotionally unavailable men have us confusing anxiety with chemistry, she's unpacking the patterns that keep us accepting less than we deserve — and why recognizing a red flag means absolutely nothing if you're going to ignore it. We're talking situationships that have overstayed their welcome, exes who refuse to stay in the past, toxic friend groups, the difference between being wanted and being valued, and men who apparently need a congressional hearing to decide whether they want to go on a second date. This episode is part tough love, part reality check, and part Emma genuinely questioning what the f*ck is in the air right now??? Because at some point, we have to stop asking why people aren't choosing us and start asking why we're still choosing them. Buckle up. She's not holding back on this one. Well, this is one hell of a plot twist. A year and a half ago, Emma walked away from a podcast she helped build, lost everything she had worked for, and started over from scratch. Today, she's announcing the biggest career milestone of her life. In this very special episode of Too Much, Emma is taking you behind the scenes of how she turned one of the most devastating chapters of her life into her greatest comeback yet. From the fallout of Unhinged to an unexpected encounter on a date that changed the trajectory of her career, she's going down the rabbit hole about what it really takes to start over, bet on yourself, recognize opportunities, and become your own biggest advocate. Because here's the thing: you can manifest, romanticize, and visualize your dream life all you want, but at some point, you've got to get off your a** and go after it. This episode is for every woman who's ever been underestimated, told she's too much, or found herself starting over when she thought she had it all figured out. Turns out, the life you planned falling apart might just be the best thing that ever happened to you. And trust me, you're going to want to hear how this story ends. What if the reason you’re upset they ignored the TikTok you sent them… has absolutely nothing to do with the TikTok? This week, we’re going down the rabbit hole of John and Julie Gottman's theory of the fundamental unit of emotional communication: bids for connection — the tiny, often invisible ways we ask the people we love to notice us, choose us. Emma gets into why seemingly insignificant moments can hurt so f*cking much, how repeated rejection can quietly create distance in relationships, and the difference between someone who simply doesn’t know how to love you the way you need — and someone who knows and still chooses not to. From ignored texts and missed affection to one particularly painful relationship where breadcrumbs started feeling like a feast, this episode is about the little moments that tell us a whole lot about the people we love — and ourselves. Plus, Spooky Season Series has OFFICIALLY entered the chat once again, with an audience ghost story to close out the episode. Going on vacation with someone sounds romantic until the flight gets canceled, someone’s hangry, the credit card declines, you haven’t had a bowel movement in five days, and suddenly the person you’ve been dating becomes a full-blown mammal. This week, Emma is going down the rabbit hole about why traveling with a partner — or someone you’ve known for approximately 19 business days — is one of the fastest ways to figure out what you’re actually working with. Because travel doesn’t necessarily change a relationship. It reveals it. From booking a trip on a FIRST DATE (yes, you read that right) to romantic trips that exposed some very unromantic truths, Emma gets into traveling too soon, manufactured intimacy, vacation love bombing, money, conflict, compatibility, and the dangerous little fantasy of cosplaying marriage in a hotel room. The question isn’t whether it’s “too soon” to take the trip. It’s what you’re making the trip mean. But in Emma's POV — the answer is usually, "fuck it. Book the trip. Just don’t pack an imaginary relationship in your carry-on." EPISODE SPONSORS: Go to Quince.com/TOOMUCH for free shipping on your order and 365-day returns. When did “I don’t feel like it” become a good enough reason to stop showing up for the people we love? This week, Emma is going down the rabbit hole on one of her biggest pet peeves: bailing. The last-minute cancellations, the casual “sorry babe, can’t make it,” and the yes that apparently meant “I’ll decide how I feel that day.” Because somewhere between protecting our peace and honoring our boundaries, it appears we all forgot how to honor our word. Emma gets vulnerable about why being bailed on can feel so much bigger than a canceled plan, dating back to her abandonment wounds and following her up until a couple weeks ago when half the group trip bailed. She unpacks the difference between giving someone grace and ignoring a pattern, and when it’s finally time to stop extending invitations to people who keep showing you they won’t show up. Because relationships aren’t built on declarations — they’re built on evidence. And an honest no will always be better than an unreliable yes. So moral of the story — it's time to start showing the f*ck up.
