Show Notes
Thank you for listening a full year!
In this anniversary show I celebrate the guests that have made the best episodes, get back to the point of why the show came about, I address my depression head on, calling it out of the shadows and talking some truth. I don't stop there, though, I babble about random movie plots, the majestic workings of CBD, trying to reframe my thoughts to distinguish feelings from logic, a shout out to some dear friends who down for the count and delightful impression of someone who knows what they are talking about.
More from fuck you depression
After taking a two year hiatus without even realizing it I am back to dust off some cobwebs and share why it took me so long to get this act together. Listen as I clumsily disclose having two short stays in separate Psychiatric Hospitals and what lead to my decision to go and the many difficult maneuvers it took just to get there. You will hear a brief elucidation on what can be expected at the local Mental Health ward, indicators that it might be time for a check in, and the discharge process. You will also hear me mistake what an oxygen mask is called.
More bogus shit from the Captain? not quite. Listen as I go through the process of getting back on medication after nearly 20yrs of disdain. You will be regaled with stories exposing the raw observations of medication misuse, attacking head meds with an open mind. I will illustrate my experience with the side effects and the impact on my work. You can listen for suggested approaches to exploring medication as an optional treatment. *this podcast is for entertainment purposes only. I am not a doctor, I am barely a professional. if you are in need of help please skip to the last five minutes of this episode where you can find some options for tried and true professional assistance out there. Please enjoy this for what it is, a candid monologue of a man trying to repair himself and make sense of the past in order to appreciate the future!
Getting into the endless corners and trapdoors of mental health medication, including sedatives, SSRI's, stimulants and anticonvulsants....if you or someone you know is interested in exploring medication but is uncertain, why not have a listen to someone who is still a bit uncertain. I speak openly about the effects and side-effects (positive and negative), reasons I gave up, as well as reasons I decided to give it another try with honest effort. I also talk about getting high at work, not listening, interrupting people, misinterpreting social cues, being a maniac, being productive, being a better partner, and forgetting what I was talking about.
Peer into the inner workings of anger control, breathing, obvious clichés, what NOT to do, how NOT to take or give advice, the relaxing and mind-altering state of painting, the return of the event boundary, and other mechanisms for living with depression/anxiety/hate.
Accomplished Chef, Jeremy K. and I, your dysfunctional host, explore the deep dark recesses of Imposter Syndrome as we experience it. We also discuss drug use/abuse/misuse/refuse, being an apprentice, learning from mentors, the ground breaking impact of taking and giving breaks, self medicating, burning the fuck out, and dive into yet another example of "Steak Syndrome". We touch on a few coping mechanisms as we swap horror stories and feats of triumph alike.
