How did Psalm 22 predict the crucifixion of Jesus? Otis Fowler reads Psalm 22 next to Hebrews 2:12-18, where Jesus says, "I will declare thy name unto my brethren." Hebrews w/ Otis Fowler Pt 7, taught by Otis Fowler with Matt Hepner, TopLobsta and Raven.
Otis Fowler picks up Hebrews 2 where Pt 6 left off. Jesus was made "perfect through sufferings" (Hebrews 2:10), and "he is not ashamed to call them brethren" (Hebrews 2:11). The One who sanctifies and the ones He sanctifies are one family, and the word of God is what sanctifies us: "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth" (John 17:17).
Then Otis goes to the psalm that Hebrews 2:12 quotes. Psalm 22 opens with "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?", describes the crucifixion centuries before it happened ("they pierced my hands and my feet," "They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture"), and turns at verse 22 to "I will declare thy name unto my brethren." Back in Hebrews 2, verses 14-18: through death Jesus destroyed "him that had the power of death, that is, the devil," took on "the seed of Abraham," and "is able to succour them that are tempted." The live chat ends with sharing the gospel, Mark 16 and whether tongues are required for salvation.
