When leaders are unhappy at work, they often blame the company. But more often it’s a sign of dissatisfaction with their own inability to work within the constraints of the job.
No job is perfect. Every role comes with constraints: things that stop you from operating at your best.
Whether it’s a bad boss, a lack of resources, or unrealistic expectations, the question isn't whether your job has constraints: it's whether or not you can live with them.
If you don’t proactively manage the constraints then, over time, you might not like who you have to become to function in your role.
In this episode, I reveal the difference between genuine constraints and the artificial constraints; I explore the symptoms of unhappiness at work; and I give you three critical mindset shifts that will pull your focus off the daily grind and onto the long game, and get back to peak performance.

How many times have you sat in a room full of senior people, thinking about making a great point, but never actually speaking up?
If your workload is out of control, your best people are leaving, and you feel alone and unsupported, it might be that you're working for a weak leader.
You never know what to expect when mentoring CEOs.
In leadership, difficult conversations come with the territory. So, if your goal is to make everyone happy… go work in a donut shop!
The hardest thing I ever tried to do as an executive was to stop the sh!t that had already started: it gets a life of its own.
