In Second Kings, Chapter 2, Elijah’s final journey comes to an extraordinary end as he is taken up in a whirlwind of fire. Elisha refuses to leave his master’s side, asks for a pi shnayim — a double portion of Elijah’s spirit — and then takes up the mantle.
But the real question comes when Elisha strikes the Jordan and cries out, “Where is the God of Elijah?” The answer reveals the heart of the chapter: the power was never in the mantle itself, but in the God behind it.
