Sandra Elia talks about her food addiction and how She gained 100 pounds, while it had nothing to do with hunger. She was eating to numb herself.
Today Sandra is a certified food addiction counsellor and the author of Never Enough: Three Pillars of Food Addiction Recovery. She also runs an outpatient food addiction recovery program in medical clinics across Canada. She and Gina talk about how ultra-processed food is built to overwhelm your brain’s reward system, the difference between eating food and using it, and how to plan for your high-risk times of day. They also cover what GLP-1 medications can’t do on their own, why “I just have to stop” is the wrong answer to a craving, and what to ask yourself instead.

More from Liv Lighter with Gina
Maintenance isn’t the finish line. It’s where the work gets personal. Gina Livy and Odette talk about what keeping weight off really looks like for women in midlife: trusting how you feel over what the scale says, giving your weight a range to move in instead of a number to defend, and letting go of the weight you carry that was never physical. That last idea is the heart of Gina’s new book, Liv Lighter, which is now available at Indigo.ca.
Heart disease kills more women than all cancers combined, yet most women say their doctor has never brought it up. Dr. Olinca Trejo, a naturopathic doctor and Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, explains why heart risk climbs after menopause and why women’s symptoms often look nothing like the movie version of a heart attack. She also names the one cholesterol test worth asking for.
When you feel stuck, the instinct is to add more: another rule, another habit, another item on a list of 103 things you’re “supposed” to be doing. But sometimes the missing piece isn’t what you think, sometimes it’s connection.
How many photos have you sat out because you were waiting to lose the weight first?
Which supplements are actually worth taking? And why do so many people lose hair while they’re losing weight?
