In this week’s Flightless Bird, David talks to someone who has schizophrenia. Christopher Grant talks about what it was like to grow up seeing the world a little differently than others, his growing struggles with mental health, and finally being diagnosed and treated. Chris now creates “schizophrenias simulation videos” which are watched by million of people. They are his attempt to let us see the world through the eyes of someone who sees and hears people, and entities, that aren't there. More from Flightless Bird
The Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film is as iconic as the moon landing and footage of the JFK assassination. But was it real? In today’s episode, we have the final, conclusive answer to this question. If you missed the memo, today is the National Bigfoot Day, so Flightless Bird is doing a deep dive into some of the most famous movie footage ever taken: The Patterson-Gimlin bigfoot film. Allegedly shot in Bluff Creek on October 20, 1967 - the blurry figure of Bigfoot ignited an American obsession with the cryptid. In today’s episode, Rob and David sit down with Marq Evans and Tamir Ardon, the director and producer behind an incredible documentary released today called “Capturing Bigfoot”. They got access to a tape in a vault that blows the Bigfoot mystery wide open - and they share their findings with us.
In this month’s Nest Session, David and Rob are joined in the studio by Yvette Young, frontwoman of math rock band Covet, and an incredible guitarist who ended up on a Rolling Stone list of greatest guitarists of all time. She also really, really loves birds (including the kiwi) - so how would we not have her in the Flightless Bird studio? As well as sharing her amazing guitar skills in an intimate performance, Young also shares a terrifying, sobering story about what it’s like when you get the wrong kind of attention from a fan.
In this week’s Flightless Bird, David and Rob are joined in the studio by legendary comedian Margaret Cho to check in on how she feels about the USA here in 2026. We (Rosabel, me and Rob) are all giant fans of Margaret, and dig into how she is somehow still a fan of the USA. What gives her hope, and what makes her want to scream into the void? And how does she manage to be such a prolific comedian, writer, actor, musician and podcaster? Also - please vote for us at the Signal Awards!https://vote.signalaward.com/PublicVoting#/2026/shows/genre/arts-culturehttps://vote.signalaward.com/PublicVoting#/2026/shows/genre/indie-podcastJoin us for bonus Flightless Bird episodes on Patreon: http://patreon.com/flightlessbird Feedback: [email protected] on Spotify. In this week’s Flightless Bird, David looks at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - AKA Mormons - AKA “The American Religion”. Mormons are the quintessential American religion, created by a New Yorker in New York who allegedly emerged from the woods with some very special golden plates. David meets Terryl Givens, professor of literature and religion at the University of Richmond, and author of “By the Hand of Mormon: The American Scripture that Launched a New World Religion”. Givens is also a practicing Mormon, and explains to David what makes this religion so appealing to him. David then meets two former members, Kelly and Zach, who walked away from the church and its magic underpants. They explain why they decided to leave, and what their new life looks like.
In this week’s Flightless Bird, we revisit what the heck is going on with the banning of Kratom and 7-OH after the DEA got involved. We talk to a major manufacturer of these so-called “gas station drugs” to get his take on things, before revisiting Michael from our last episode to see if he’s kicked his habit. We also hear from listeners about their experiences, and catch up with musician and friend of the show Anthony Green about his experiences with hard drugs, and where Kratom fits in for him.Join us for bonus Flightless Bird episodes on Patreon: http://patreon.com/flightlessbird Feedback: [email protected] on Spotify.
