Summary
WrestleDream, the latest AEW pay-per-view, showcases a blend of high-stakes matches and dramatic storylines, but not without its share of criticisms regarding pacing and execution. The event kicks off with a strong segment featuring Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn, where Zayn acknowledges Reigns' previous insights about the burdens of championship status. This sets the tone for an engaging narrative, although the subsequent matches struggle to maintain that momentum.
The card features a variety of matches, including a six-man tag team title bout that sees The New Day and Swerve Strickland face off against Penta and others. The match is filled with high spots but lacks the emotional investment that fans crave, leading to a quiet crowd response. The main event, a chaotic street fight, introduces a unique format where competitors are eliminated by pinfall or submission, but the execution leaves much to be desired.
Despite some entertaining moments, the overall presentation suffers from a lack of coherent storytelling and character development. The event concludes with Will Ospreay winning the match, but the journey to that conclusion is marred by inconsistencies and a failure to capitalize on the talent's potential. As AEW continues to evolve, the challenge remains to balance innovative match concepts with compelling narratives that resonate with the audience.
