What if one simple habit could change the emotional and spiritual direction of your child’s life? Research suggests that kids who engage with Scripture at least four times a week experience measurable decreases in loneliness, anxiety, depression, anger issues, and even pornography use. But that’s not all. They’re also more likely to build healthy friendships, serve others, share their faith, and develop resilience in hard times. So how do we actually help our kids want to read the Bible—not because they “have to,” but because they’re learning to love Jesus?
In this episode, Dannah Gresh and Kelly Needham talk practically, honestly, and biblically about how to plant deep roots of truth in your child’s heart… one habit at a time.

You don’t want to hear the statistics about pornography use in America today. But we’re going to share them, anyhow. The concerning - is that word strong enough?- the concerning reality is that 79% of men who regularly attend church self-report a frequent exposure to pornography. The news is better for women, but not quite cut in half. 40% of Christian women, according to Barna research, report intentionally encountering pornography on a somewhat regular basis. It gets worse, as 3 out of 5 Christians who regularly view pornography believe a person can do so and maintain a sexually healthy lifestyle. But ask someone whose spouse has been taken completely captive to pornography if this is true. You are about to hear a different opinion…
Early believers saw something in the Psalms that many modern Christians miss: Jesus. Dannah and Suzy can’t wait to show you what they discovered—and once you see Him there, you may never read the Psalms the same way again. Plus, join Dannah next month for Holy Girl Walk, Season 5, as we walk and meditate our way through the powerful truth of Psalm 1.
There are some things we don’t mind talking with our kids about. Handling the bully at school. Integrity at work and school. Choosing friends wisely. Why is it, when it comes to sexuality - especially topics like homosexuality and gender - we hesitate? Maybe we want to get it right. Maybe we have a fear of man. We may not feel qualified. But here’s some good news - we’re not responsible for outcomes. We’re responsible to share the truth. To have beautiful feet that simply bring good news… yes, even in our own homes.
Jackie Hill Perry lived for years as a lesbian, experiencing sexual brokenness through pornography usage, relationships, and a fear that a holy God would not forgive her. Her husband, Preston Perry, was introduced to pornography before the age of seven and was sexually active by the age of 14. And now? Jackie and Preston are serving Jesus and walking through the mine fields of contemporary culture with their own kids, much like you may be. Jackie will share encouragement that you have all that you need according to God’s glorious riches, to walk with your children through the toughest of conversations about sexual identity and gender confusion.
Parents know no greater joy than this - that their children walk in the truth. We want our kids to know Jesus, to love Jesus, and to serve Jesus. It is a desire of an order that is even greater than their happiness. If only we knew how to be sure this is the case. Well, our kids, like us, have free will and each is responsible for her own journey, but there are things we can do that build faith and faithfulness in our children. And worshiping together… is one of those things.
