Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch! This week Max, Ryan, and Daemon dive into Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick's comments about PC gaming. Zelnick says that gaming as an industry is moving more towards PC, even with the ongoing popularity of the PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Valve's recent Steam, Machine announcement makes it very clear that the company is making a play for living rooms—traditionally the domain of gaming consoles—as the next frontier for PC games. What does that mean for Sony and Microsoft? And is it too late for the next Xbox, which promises to be a hybrid console/PC like the Steam Machine? Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch! This week Daemon is joined by fellow Omega Cop, Nick Limon, and Beyond's Nick Maillet to talk about that rumored GTA 6 on PC release window. Rockstar and Take-Two have officially been keeping quiet on GTA 6's PC release, but according to a new report, anonymous sources have stated a Q1 2027 release window. That's only a few months after the PS5 and Xbox release, when usually Rockstar takes a year or more to port their big titles from console to PC. So why the rush? Would this eat at some of their day one console sales if some gamers prefer to wait until they can play it on PC? And does it have anything to do with the rapid advancements in the PS5 AI recomp scene? Plus we have last week's poll results and a new poll for you to vote on at IGN.com, Spotify, and Discord.
Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch! On this week's episode, Daemon, Max, and Ryan look into Xbox CEO Asha Sharma's recent quotes taken from company town hall meeting. Xbox is trying to turn a corner in this current generation, while also preparing for next-gen and Project Helix. Can it be done? And is a "family of devices" for gen 10 a path of succcess for Xbox? We also have last week's poll results a new poll for you to vote on at IGN.com, Spotify, and Discord. And finally, the Next-Gen Console Watch crew bids farewell to one of their own.
Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch! This week Daemon, Ryan, and Max take a look at ex-PlayStation Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida's recent comments about this current generation. Yoshida doesn't think gamers are interested in a PlayStation 6 or really any new generation of gaming hardware, and the PS5/Switch 2 generation should go for as long as possible. While our wallets might appreciate, can PlayStation's business model go beyond the usual 5-7 year lifespan of gaming hardware? And what about Microsoft, whose Xbox business has not been performing well in the last two generations? Maybe their mysterious Project Helix could be the thing that gives that brand a much-needed shot in the arm. Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch! This week Daemon, Max, and Ryan dive deep into the latest happenings at Microsoft. This week the company announced another round of layoffs and a significant reshuffling of their remaining studios, which has resulted in Activision getting their shot at Halo, Obsidian being folded into Bethesda, and more. Would Activision's Halo be more Call of Duty than Halo? And would that be such a bad thing? What does this mean for Bungie, who has just announced a return of sorts to Destiny 2? And what will become of Rare, who is also moving into Activision's stable of developers? Plus we have last week's poll results and a new poll for you to vote on at IGN, Spotify, and Discord.
Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch! This week Daemon, Max, and Ryan discuss the diverging paths Xbox and PlayStation appear to be taking in this console generation, and it isn't the first time. Ever since the Xbox-PlayStation 2 days, the two competitors have found themselves trading wins every other console generation, with Sony seeing massive success with the PS2, then Microsoft with the Xbox 360 the following generation, and so on. Both have lost massive amounts of gamer good will in this gen, with Sony and Microsoft shuttering studios, cancelling projects, and pushing forward some very not-so-consumer-friendly business decisions. But now it looks like the tide is turning, with Xbox's new leadership, lead by Asha Sharma, trying to earn back fans' trust, and Sony stumbling again by dropping Hideo Kojima's mysterious Physint and the massively unpopular decision to stop producing physical media for first-party titles. Is this a new era for Microsoft? And is it time for Sony to start fresh with a new PlayStation 6 generation?
