College of Europe Podcast (Bruges)

Show Notes

In April 2023, we are launching the second round of our Social Media Campaign to put the research and publications at the College of Europe in the spotlight! The College is gathering top researchers from around the world and Europe, so let’s focus on what they are doing and what their fields of research are.

Every week we will highlight a publication from our (visiting) professors or academic assistants. We will also release podcast episodes focusing on their research.

David Phinnemore is opening the ball for this month’s campaign. He is explaining his research on the implementation of the protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland as a central element of EU/Brexit negotiation.

Check out his research project: Post-Brexit Governance NI | Participation for Protection (P4P) | Queen's University Belfast (qub.ac.uk) Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Prof. Geurts also shares his experiences and reflections as ambassador to Ecuador from 2020-2024, particularly on efforts to combat the illegal cocaine trade and transnational organised crime, including drawing on European law-enforcement experience in tackling the Italian mafia to support responses to Ecuadorian drug gangs, while also navigating the tensions that can arise when EU diplomats engage with differing approaches to military involvement in law enforcement.
