Netanyahu Loses Big Time. Will It Matter? Israel Election Results Arrive | Episode 32
John Kiriakou's Briefing RoomShow Notes
Netanyahu’s coalition just lost its majority, so why might he stay in power for months? On this election edition of The Briefing Room, former CIA officer and whistleblower John Kiriakou breaks down the week’s biggest results at home and abroad.
We start in Israel, where Netanyahu’s bloc fell to about 50 seats, Arab parties posted record numbers, and “No one” became a top contender for prime minister. John explains the coalition math and why Netanyahu doesn’t have to win to stay in office. Then it’s on to Brazil’s shock result, as Lula wins a historic fourth term and Flávio Bolsonaro refuses to concede before leaving for the United States.
Back home, actual votes are in. Democrats are out-voting Republicans early in Florida, New Jersey has swung roughly 30 points, and Trump’s final campaign stops say a lot about how nervous the White House is. John also has an update on Matthew Cole, the reporter whose story helped send him to prison, as doubts about Cole’s Kushner allegations grow from Barak Ravid to Jon Stewart. Plus, a shouting match at the UN between Ambassador Mike Waltz and Cuba’s foreign minister, and a reported $1 billion cash offer from Saudi Arabia to get the Houthis to stop bombing its oil facilities.

More from John Kiriakou's Briefing Room
Years ago, a journalist I trusted gave me up to the FBI, and I went to prison for it. Now that same reporter, Matthew Cole, is reporting that Russian and Dutch intelligence got inside Jared Kushner's personal phone. I'll walk you through the allegations, why this is a live problem with Kushner negotiating with Putin right now, and what I'd tell the sources who talked to him. (Spoiler: get a lawyer.)
This election season is officially spiraling out of hand as massive campaign cash and international political maneuvers collide. Days away from Israel's high-stakes October 27th election, Benjamin Netanyahu is fighting a deadlock to hold onto power against a hawkish "centrist" challenger, while the Israeli government takes the absurd step of purchasing television ads directly targeted at American voters in Iowa. We pull back the curtain on this bizarre intersection of foreign influence and follow the dark money flooding into America's biggest midterm races. Finally, we analyze a highly controversial $4 million ad campaign from Vivek Ramaswamy that features his opponent Amy Acton's estranged mother and look at the critical personal context left out of the broadcast.
John Kiriakou for U.S. Ambassador to Greece? What started as a pitch to President Trump has officially gone international. Major Greek newspapers are covering John's campaign to become the next U.S. ambassador to Greece. Plus, Trump has made the unprecedented move to officially endorse Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel’s upcoming election, just days away.
Is President Trump waiting until after the midterms to launch another round of strikes in the Middle East?
The war between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis has escalated dramatically as Riyadh’s international airport was hit by missile strikes twice in forty-eight hours, leaving at least twelve dead and hundreds injured. As Saudi forces strike back hard with widespread bombings across Yemen, we analyze the silence from American media, break down how the White House might react, and look at whether this major escalation will pull the United States directly into a wider Middle Eastern war. We also react to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s sweeping order to investigate and prosecute IDF soldiers who blew the whistle on military conduct in the anonymous "NAZA" investigative documentary. On the domestic front, we debunk the right-wing influencer hoax claiming Texas Senate candidate James Talarico was secretly institutionalized in Ohio, exposing the real political panic driving these campaign-trail conspiracy theories. We then go inside the West Bank to look at a remarkable 60 Minutes package detailing weaponized settler violence and the detention of Palestinian residents. Finally, after years of persistence on the show, we celebrate a major milestone as we have officially made contact with Angry Birds headquarters, before tackling the uncharted legal territory of two botched high-profile military executions.
