Ep.64 - Jesse Koorey - Low & Slow BBQ Lover, Freestyle Motobike Rider
The Roads We've Walked PodcastShow Notes
Born in New Zealand and brought to Australia at a young age in search of greater opportunity, Jesse Koorey grew up in the northern suburbs of the Gold Coast with a strong sense of drive and adventure. While he enjoyed school, it was motorbikes that truly captured his attention. What started as a passion for riding quickly evolved into a fearless pursuit of freestyle—learning tricks, hitting jumps others wouldn’t dare attempt, and travelling up and down Australia’s east coast chasing that adrenaline-fuelled lifestyle. During his teenage years, Jesse balanced that passion with a school-based carpentry apprenticeship, laying the foundations for a career that would later become his focus. After one too many injuries in his early 20s, he made the tough call to step away from freestyle riding and fully commit to life as a chippy. But Jesse’s competitive edge never disappeared—it just found a new outlet. Later in life, he discovered a deep passion for BBQ, especially the art of low and slow cooking. What began as a hobby quickly turned into something more, competing with teams and earning placings in competitions along the way. He even launched a small side hustle selling brisket beef patties, bringing his love for BBQ to others. Today, Jesse is a contracted carpentry supervisor, a dedicated husband and father, and proof that while passions may evolve, the fire to chase them never fades. After a bit of a hiatus from the podcast, we’re back — and what better way to return than with Podcast Royale 3.0! 🥊🎙️ We kick things off with the trip down on Friday, catching up with familiar faces, meeting plenty of new ones, and getting amongst the action at the Podcast Royale 3.0 press conference. We got the chance to ask the fighters a few questions, hear what they had to say ahead of fight night, and get a feel for what was shaping up to be one hell of a card. Then it was time to break down the Saturday night fight card, talk through the matchups, the big moments and everything that went down inside the ring. And of course, no Podcast Royale recap would be complete without talking about the after party! We had an absolute blast watching Luke Geiger and Shannon Noll hit the stage and keeping the night going. Overall, it was an unreal weekend — great to catch up with familiar faces, meet some new people and get back amongst the podcast community after the hiatus. Thanks to everyone who made Podcast Royale 3.0 one to remember. Bring on Podcast Royale 4.0! 🥊🔥🎙️
The Catch Up #1 with Tom Barbary & Colin Noble The boys are back! 🎙️ After previously joining The Roads We’ve Walked to share their own stories, Tom Barbary (Barbz) and Colin Noble (Pommy) are back for a good old-fashioned catch up. This time, the afternoon starts at the Bellmere Butcher, where the boys get a tour around the farm before sitting down for a yarn about everything that’s happened since we last heard from them. Pommy has stepped into a new job and is trying to navigate a crazy work life filled with different rosters, while Barbz has made a massive move of his own — swapping his one-bedroom apartment in Hamilton, Brisbane, for life at Embrace Farms in the Glasshouse Mountains. And if that wasn't enough, Barbz is also deep into training for Podcast Royale 3.0, adding a whole new challenge to the mix. From farm tours and work rosters to big life changes, training, laughs and plenty of stories along the way, this was exactly the kind of catch up we needed. The boys were great to have back on the show, and we can't wait for the next one. This is The Catch Up. 🍻

Born on the Gold Coast and raised predominantly around Browns Plains and the Logan area, Tyson Major’s journey has taken him through plenty of different chapters. Diagnosed with ADHD at a young age, Tyson struggled with concentration at school and was always more comfortable being active and outdoors. After school, he explored different career paths, including aspirations of becoming a chef and attempting to join the Army, before eventually working in security alongside his father and later moving through a range of jobs and industries to support his family. In 2017, at around 30 years old, Tyson’s life changed when he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Learning to manage a lifelong condition while working and providing for his family brought with it some incredibly difficult mental and physical challenges. Over time, Tyson began pushing himself physically through hiking, eventually taking on the Kokoda Track and proving to himself that Type 1 diabetes didn’t have to define what he was capable of. Away from those challenges, Tyson has built an online following as Cringe Dad, using humour, family and everyday life to create content while also using his platform to raise awareness for Type 1 diabetes. Most recently, he completed an incredible 24-hour walking challenge, with family, friends and the local community rallying behind him and helping raise approximately $12,000 for the Type 1 Foundation. Today, Tyson continues to balance family life, social media, hiking and new challenges while using his story to inspire others living with Type 1 diabetes.
