Three Standing Rules for the Small Decisions You Make Every Day

7 Good Minutes

Show Notes

If you keep re-deciding the same small things every day, settling a few of them once can make your days feel lighter. This short episode walks you through writing your first three standing rules, with a pen, in about five minutes.

You’ll find the arguments with yourself that come up most often and turn each one into a simple “when, then” sentence. You’ll also make each rule small enough to keep on your worst day, then put it where the argument actually happens. Live with your rules for a week and change any that aren’t working. Don’t expect a new life. Expect a few moments in your day that get noticeably quieter.
