Living in Plan B - Married Life After Sight Loss | Mark and Cathy Madavan | Couple Goals S1E5
Couple GoalsShow Notes
What do you do when life throws you a massive curveball? Mark and Cathy Madavan know all about it. When they came back from their honeymoon Mark was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition which would eventually make him fully blind. That was over 30 years ago and he now has almost no vision left. He hasn't seen his wife or his daughters' faces for more than a decade.
What does a relationship look like when all your plans are changed in an instant? When you face disappointment or loss? For Mark and Cathy, though they've had a long and happy marriage it's not been all smooth sailing. But from challenging early years ('which had nothing to do with Mark's blindness!') they've built a strong relationship on foundations which are secure in spite of their constantly changing reality.
With remarkable honesty and openness, they discuss just how hard marriage has been for them at times, but also how they have kept learning and growing together as they constantly strengthen their relationship to be able to withstand anything that life can throw at them.
This episode is full of practical relationship advice, relatable to anyone who is going through marriage problems, struggling with a diagnosis, experiencing grief or just looking to build their relationship. Mark and Cathy are warm, open and real. We couldn't be more excited to share this conversation with you. __________
