Filmed in Blackheath, Fenners sits down with Peter Doherty for an intimate, unfiltered session, accompanied Gladys, who's snoring interrupts the interview. Peter reflects on his early childhood, growing up with a dad in the military, and how discovering military history books and First World War poetry laid the foundation for his lyrical storytelling.
Peter opens up about his musical journey, from early days listening to Chas & Dave to falling in love with The Smiths, and breaks down his legendary songwriting partnership with Carl Barât. He shares the classic story of taking a job as a theatre usher alongside Carl just to badger him into rehearsing, and reflects on why he believes the strength of their music stands alongside the very best songwriters.
Peter also discusses his enduring passion for songwriting, drawing motivation from icons like Bob Dylan and Townes Van Zandt, reading crowds to construct set lists, and catching up with Trampolene’s Jack Jones.
