662 - DR DEAN LOMAX - Britain’s TOP Dinosaur Expert Reveals Insane Prehistoric Secrets! (2 Hour Special)
JaackMaate’s Happy HourShow Notes
In this special 2 hour long episode, we sit down with renowned palaeontologist and author Dr Dean Lomax for a journey into the world of dinosaurs! After showing an interest in palaeontology (the study of prehistoric life through fossils) from a young age, Dean sold his Star Wars collectibles to fund a fossil hunting trip in Wyoming at the age of 18.
He has since uncovered countless fossils, named new species, written multiple books and academic papers, and worked on films and tv shows as a dinosaur expert. Not bad for someone who failed science at school.
Dean shares how he discovered a dinosaur whilst having a wee, tells us about his friendship with David Attenborough, and reveals what happens on a dig site. He answers all of our silly questions - Could we bring dinosaurs back to life through DNA like in Jurassic Park? Can you name a new species of dinosaur after yourself? How do we know that dinosaur bones haven’t been mixed up with other species? Which Pokemon are based on real dinos?
Plus Dean brings in some actual treasures from the ancient world, and we crack open some fossils live on the pod! Dr Lomax’s books are available on Amazon, or Waterstones in the UK.
