Show Notes

There is so much to get to today, with finals taking place, trophies being lifted and goodbyes taking place all around the world of football this weekend. Musa and Ryan begin with Barcelona Femení winning their fourth Champions League in six seasons (02:55), with a 4-0 win over Lyonnes on Saturday. They then head to the Premier League (07:30), where Spurs survived, West Ham went down, Bournemouth and Sunderland made the Europa League, Brighton went into the Conference League and Arsenal finally got to lift the Premier League trophy for the first time since 2004. Liverpool said goodbye to Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, Manchester City said goodbye to Pep Guardiola, Bernardo Silva and John Stones, on an emotional final day of the Premier League season. Elsewhere, Bayern completed the double, Torreense and Lens won their first domestic cups, Como qualified for the Champions League and much, much more! Also, sure you check out Kickback, who are currently doing country by country previews on their First Touch ‘26 Country Pods. Musa was on a recent one, chatting about DR Congo, so go check it here or wherever you get your podcasts. Tickets for our July live show, with Nish Kumar at the Southbank Centre, are available here. After a quick shout out of some of the weekend’s results, Musa and Ryan are once again joined by Van Lathan and Jomi Adeniran, from The Ringer’s Midnight Boys, for the second of two special guest episodes! Much like The Avengers, they assemble to put together the Ultimate Superhero XI (17:52), plus a full bench, as well as coaching and executive staff. It’s an epic. If you missed it, this follows on from Thursday’s episode, which you can listen to here. Tickets for our next Southbank Centre show are on sale now, get them here! After shouting out the only place to begin, Musa and Ryan chat about Manchester City’s trip to Anfield (06:56), where they defeated Liverpool, in the first game back since their guilty verdict was announced. The focus isn’t much on the game itself, but more on the reaction at and around the game, the weirdness it uncovered for the Premier League season and what it might mean going forward. In part two, they move onto Freiburg being top of the Bundesliga (34:49), after Bayern and Dortmund both dropped points on the weekend, as well as the amazing job Julian Schuster has done since succeeding the great Christian Streich. There’s also a bit of La Liga chat, most notably the drama in Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Villarreal, plus lots more. Tickets for our next Southbank Centre show are on sale now, get them here! As we head into the extended men’s international break, many teams will be welcoming it, while some will be wishing there were more club games this week. It’s hard to know which is the case for Atlético and Real Madrid, as Musa and Ryan discuss another home win for Diego Simeone’s side and another impressive Madrid derby (04:45). José Mourinho brought a print out to the press conference and for a second it felt like the first time he was in charge, attempting to distract from a less than stellar performance from his side. They then move onto Serie A, including a brilliant top of the table clash between Roma and Inter (30:38). There’s also Premier League chat, with impressive results and performances from Brighton and Brentford, who inflicted 3-0 defeats on Arsenal and Chelsea respectively. Plus, there’s Ligue 1, Bundesliga and more! Tickets for our next Southbank Centre show are on sale now, get them here!
