Deep Dive into Mortifying the Idol of Self (2 Timothy 3:1-4:5)
Scripture and historic Christian literature provide essential antidotes to the modern cultural trap of expressive individualism and self-worship. Because the fallen human heart is deceitful, believers must mortify the idol of self and submit unreservedly to the absolute sufficiency of the God-breathed Bible. While classic theological books by authors like Augustine, Calvin, and Bunyan offer invaluable pastoral wisdom for spiritual formation, they remain fallible human testimonies that must always be tested against divine revelation. Pastors and believers are therefore commanded to preach the word without compromise, measuring true maturity not by cultural relevance or intellectual pride, but by unswerving faithfulness to Jesus Christ.
