In this episode of The Apocalypse Will Be Podcasted, we break down Dante’s chapter from This Inevitable Ruin, a quiet but devastating look at former crawlers, the Dungeon Anarchist Cookbook, and Justice Light’s past. We unpack Dante’s guilt as a Cookbook author, the mechanics of indenture and reassignment, and how this chapter quietly establishes Justice Light’s moral code, and the cost of refusing to bend it. What reads as background lore quickly becomes heavy foreshadowing for consequences that ripple through the series. It’s a restrained chapter with brutal implications, ending in a bleak revelation. In Chapter 7 of A Parade of Horribles of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, Mordecai's new form comes with some unsettling prophecies for Carl and Donut. We break down what those prophecies might mean, discuss the potential foreshadowing for the end of the series, and take a closer look at shadow mimics and Mordecai's unusual shapeshifting situation. Plus, Donut gets a new hat (or two), Carl gets a new spell, and we spend entirely too much time speculating about things we probably won't get answers to anytime soon. We're a big feelings podcast, and this chapter gives us plenty to think about. Full spoilers for all released Dungeon Crawler Carl books, including The Pineapple Cabaret. Carl and Donut have a truck to race, a cat who can’t reach the pedals, and a whole lot of upgrades to figure out. This week, we’re breaking down Chapter 6 of A Parade of Horribles as the racing heats begin, the dungeon AI gets increasingly glitchy, and the team discovers that keeping everyone alive is going to be a lot harder than it sounds. We talk Donut’s character development, the best upgrades for their food truck, why Samantha absolutely cannot be trusted behind the wheel, and the challenges of stopping awakened NPCs from killing each other. Plus, we appreciate some of Matt Dinniman’s finest gremlin dialogue and take a moment to miss Katia.
Carl has wood. Rend has grown approximately 900% overnight. Donut wants to set people on fire. And somehow, this is all part of the plan. In Chapter 5, Carl and the gang help Team Free Love tow their van toward the finish line, which gives us plenty of time to discuss dead manatees, terrible horns, magic wood, kudzu, and the general question of what the hell Team Sparkles is supposed to be. Plus, we get some neat bugbear lore, a mysterious vote involving Otto the slime guy, and the extremely uncomfortable arrival of Linus at the crawler meet-and-greet. And, of course, Donut has some things to say about Ellie's nipples, fan fiction, and why she should probably consider not saying every single thought that enters her head. It's a relatively quiet chapter by Dungeon Crawler Carl standards, but there's a LOT packed into it—and some of the groundwork here hits considerably harder once you know what's coming.
In this episode of The Apocalypse Will Be Podcasted, we’re recovering from the absolute insanity of Dragon Con. We recap the panels and Q&As we attended with Matt Dinniman and Jeff Hays, including some fascinating insights into writing characters, monsters, Book 9, and the future of Dungeon Crawler Carl. Then we dive into the real madness: cosplaying as Church of Princess Donut missionaries, the massive DCC photo shoot, the first-ever DCC parade group, meeting fellow Crawlers, an absolutely ridiculous amount of fandom swag, and just how much this fandom has exploded in the past year. Basically, Dragon Con was incredible, chaotic, exhausting, and completely unhinged. We loved every minute of it.
Hello Crawlers! There will be no episode today as Bri and I have been at Dragon Con this weekend and WE ARE EXHAUSTED. Our next episode will be on Sunday September 13th. We will cover the 2 panels / Q&As we were in with Matt Dinniman & Jeff Hays, the other DCC related events, the LARGEST photoshoot in 40 years of Dragon Con history, and so much more. See you then!
