In this episode: Bisacodyl (Dulcolax) — a stimulant laxative that stimulates enteric nerves to cause peristalsis and draws fluid into the colon. Used for constipation as part of a bowel regimen. The must-knows: it can cause hypokalemia, so monitor electrolytes; watch for abdominal cramps and distension; confirm it's working and communicate bowel movements at handoff; push 1,500 to 2,000 mL of fluids daily; and warn patients to take only as ordered, since overuse flips constipation into diarrhea.
