Show Notes

We get it, Hitchcock hates blondes, but boy o' boy what a picture. What if we kill Janet Leigh’s character (Marion Crane) in the first 45 minutes, put Norman Bates in a dress with serious mommy issues, and then have him carve up a private eye at the top of the stairs in one of the most iconic shots of the time? It's hard to believe that this film was released in 1960! Halloween 4 is not going to win any awards, but it has a lot more going for it than you may think. Is Loomis's egg-faced make-up bad? Yes. Is the ending with Jamie and the scissors a bit off? Again, yes. Is Myer's mask terrible? Most certainly, yes! However, this film invoked atmosphere, is directed well, and is excellent at continuing (and returning) Michael Myers to the franchise! Grab something warm to drink, throw it on, and enjoy the ride! This podcast episode - if I may be so bold - was an incredibly fun and hilarious discussion by Dean, Scott, and Brian. 10 Cloverfield Lane starts off with an excellent lesson in visual storytelling. We can piece together what is happening with minimal dialogue. The ability to dial up the tension while keeping the audience guessing gives us an excellent window into what our main character, Michelle, may be thinking without her needing to spew it out with bad dialogue. The tipping point, and the moment that could stretch credulity, is when Emmett and Michelle realize the truth about Howard, and the major reveal at the end has divided audiences since it's release. We get into all of it and more. Do not miss this episode of The Lost Drive-In. Vampirism transcends human notions of gender, sexuality, and regular human needs. When you become a vampire, you become nothing. Eli expresses this to her new friend Oskar, but how much of a friend can Eli really be to Oskar, as she herself knows that this is her reality. Vampires tales are a dime-a-dozen, but this film is the most unique vampire film we've covered to date. Spoiler; this film is fantastic and so is this discussion. Do not miss it if you're into vampire stuff or looking for a new spin on it. Night Flier is tucked into a collection of short stories from Stephen King in a book titled Nightmares & Dreamscapes. This film took those 30 (or so) pages and delivered an atmospheric film that is stuffed with ambiance and offers a unique spin on the vampire genre. The film asks us to imagine a world in which a vampire flies a private plane from airstrip to airstrip chalking up victims along the way. Hot on his trail is Richard Dees an unscrupulous reporter for the Inside View who lusts for the story as much as the vampire lusts for blood. How will their eventual showdown conclude?
