The number of pensioners getting divorced is on the rise, but hardly any of us actually understand what happens to our pensions when a marriage ends. In this episode, Which? pensions expert Holly Lanyon reveals the results of a Which? Survey which shows that just 3% of married couples have talked about what would happen to their pensions if they got divorced - compared to 50% who’d spoken about what would happen upon death. Holly explains the different options for how pensions can be split on divorce, including pension sharing and pension offsetting, and why it’s so important for married couples to understand the rules. Holly shares some more data that shows that the number of pensioners in poverty is on the rise, with divorced retirees - particularly women - making up a greater number than married couples. Plus, James Buchan from the Which? legal team outlines the logistics of how a divorce a works, and how it can affect your will and power of attorney. Shopping online has become the convenient way to shop for almost anything, but given there’s no standardised way of returning unwanted items, the process can differ from one retailer to another. In this episode of Which? Shorts, we bring you the results of our investigation which saw mystery shoppers from across Great Britain order and return more than 200 items to find out how big-name retailers compare. We uncovered some shocking practices; with several retailers not refunding us at all, others breaking the law by routinely failing to reimburse our delivery fees and huge discrepancies in how long it took us to get our money back. This episode is read by James Rowe and is based on an article written by our retail expert Ellie Simmonds and consumer rights expert Hannah Downes, originally published in the October 2026 issue of Which? magazine.
