In this episode, we explore the dramatic story of Clovis, king of the Franks, and the conversion that reshaped Western Europe. Beginning with the legendary Battle of Zülpich in 496, where Gregory of Tours says Clovis vowed to accept Christ in exchange for victory, this video investigates what may really have happened behind the famous tale. Rather than treating Clovis’ baptism as a simple miracle story, the episode places it in the chaotic world of post-imperial Gaul. As Roman authority collapsed, new Germanic kingdoms rose across former imperial lands, while bishops and the Catholic Church became some of the most powerful institutions left standing. Clovis’ decision to embrace Catholic Christianity was not only spiritual, but deeply political. The video examines how the Franks used Roman institutions, why Catholicism gave Clovis advantages over Arian rivals like the Visigoths and Burgundians, and how Christian belief was adapted to appeal to a warrior society. It also looks at the role of bishops, Gallo-Roman elites, and martial images of Christ in integrating the Frankish elite into a new order. This is the story of how a pagan warlord and his people became the Christian heirs of Rome.Early History of the Franks: https://youtu.be/iE4qiwz7_78How Charlemagne Used Propaganda to Shape the Narrative: https://youtu.be/2m_JUevVzqgCharlemagne's Army - https://youtu.be/PX5W6pA47ywCharlemagne’s Bloody War Against the Saxons - Verden Massacre: https://youtu.be/Rea-6g1v_JkWhat Everyone Gets Wrong About Feudalism: https://youtu.be/WFlIKK8uBOoWhy Was Italy so Fragmented in the Middle Ages?: https://youtu.be/L9m5kifZjhUWhy Was Germany so Fragmented in the Middle Ages: https://youtu.be/EiB8sMHxGqMWho is the Heir of Rome?: https://youtu.be/PHtaKsG2O-UThe video was made by Sebastiao Reis, while the script was written by Erik Wascheck, the video was narrated by Liam Taylor✔ Merch store ► https://teespring.com/stores/kingsandgenerals✔ Patreon ► https://www.patreon.com/KingsandGenerals✔ Podcast ► http://www.kingsandgenerals.net/podcast/✔ PayPal ► http://paypal.me/kingsandgenerals✔ Twitter ► https://twitter.com/KingsGenerals✔ Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/KingsGenerals✔ Instagram ►http://www.instagram.com/Kings_GeneralsProduction Music courtesy of Epidemic Sound: http://www.epidemicsound.comSources: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1loite3wRmLtEh22lB7RQqAOYSw2ORi9iWdyO_V0ZxhA/edit?usp=sharing00:00:00 - Clovis’ Vow at Zülpich00:02:50 - Gaul After the Fall of Rome00:08:18 - Bishops and the New Order00:10:49 - Why Clovis Rejected Arianism00:17:03 - A Warrior King Meets Christ00:19:44 - How the Franks Inherited Rome#documentary #Christianity #Franks Learn more about your ad choices. In this opening episode of a new series on the history and evolution of the Ottoman military, we explore how a small frontier warrior society in Bithynia laid the foundations for one of the most powerful armies in world history. Beginning with the nomadic warfare traditions of Turkic tribes and the legacy of the Seljuks, the video traces how the Kayı tribe emerged in the unstable borderlands of northwestern Anatolia after the Mongol disruptions and Byzantine decline. The episode then follows Osman Gazi and the early Ottoman beylik, examining how the Ottomans combined steppe cavalry tactics, frontier raiding, local alliances, and political adaptability to defeat Byzantine forces and expand rapidly. It also highlights the role of the Ahis guilds, religious legitimacy, and cross-cultural cooperation with local Christian elites and mercenaries. Finally, the video explains the first major military reforms under Orhan and his successors: the creation of the Yaya and Müsellem corps and the development of the timar system, which transformed tribal cavalry into the Timarli Sipahi provincial force. These innovations gave the Ottomans a durable military structure and set the stage for the rise of the Janissaries in the next episode. Why Was Germany so Fragmented in the Middle Ages: https://youtu.be/EiB8sMHxGqMEastern Roman Empire: Why So Many Civil Wars?: https://youtu.be/SK_yHooLu1sWhat Did the Europeans Think About the Eastern Romans?: https://youtu.be/Qu6NnWj1EZ8Were the Eastern Romans and Arabs Always at War?: https://youtu.be/nBMP6yRAOZgGreat Schism Between Greek and Latin Christianity: https://youtu.be/a6rWf0k8d78How Islam Split into the Sunni and Shia Branches: https://youtu.be/-85dXjgMiSURise of the Cossacks: https://youtu.be/UQ_ocyTRRIECrusades From the Muslim Perspective: https://youtu.be/t8RZtYvW02gEarly Muslim Expansion - Yarmouk, Al-Qadisiyyah: https://youtu.be/r2cEIDZwG5M Early Muslim Expansion - Egypt and Iran: https://youtu.be/baHT2nR5Wr4 Muslim Schism: https://youtu.be/-85dXjgMiSU Third Crusade: https://youtu.be/jCyCSgsFXKQ Fourth Crusade: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Vp_IENiSnA&list=PLaBYW76inbX4ZjR4rodOOSc-zL1orP4hW First Crusade: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkyYjpYLORI&list=PLaBYW76inbX6RqjG027zLO_svn3Fdv7Qa Sultanate of Women in the Ottoman Empire: https://youtu.be/OEzS8D4IidA How the German Empire Provoked Ottoman Jihad in WWI: https://youtu.be/8LCpbgVx9kY Ottoman Battles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txyqS5yuw30&list=PLaBYW76inbX5BKGRPzlqdztQySZmJLjJt Why the Ottomans Never Colonized America: https://youtu.be/lM_Wzt_Z228Why the Ottoman Sultans Killed their Brothers: https://youtu.be/vN7LgUIOAVw Cem Sultan: Ottoman Prince in the Heart of Europe: https://youtu.be/3w9POQMt5jk Ottoman Pirates: https://youtu.be/5jguevSDIuY Turkification of Anatolia: https://youtu.be/JBgq1taoUsY Hashashins: https://youtu.be/vG8qmlKdRjs Christian Schism: https://youtu.be/a6rWf0k8d78 Mos Maiorum: What led to the fall of the Roman Republic?: https://youtu.be/BNWfDWk6ohM How Rome Conquered Greece: https://youtu.be/v5q1rerf-qw Caesar in Gaul: https://youtu.be/LRV185XaMIM Video: Yağız Bozan and Murat Can YağbasanScript: Ege Güneş https://www.instagram.com/historia_egefemNarration: Officially Devin youtube.com/channel/UCU0-VII-V376zFxiRGMeZGg & youtube.com/channel/UC79s7EdN9uXX77-Ly2HmEjQ✔ Merch store ► https://teespring.com/stores/kingsandgenerals ✔ Patreon ► https://www.patreon.com/KingsandGenerals ✔ Podcast ► https://kingsandgenerals.libsyn.com/ iTunes: https:/ Learn more about your ad choices. How old is Indian civilization, and can it even be described as a single civilization? In this video, we explore the deep antiquity of South Asia by examining the evolution of its languages, peoples, religions, political systems, and shared cultural sphere. From the mystery of the Indus Valley Civilization and the spread of Dravidian, Indo-Aryan, and Tibeto-Burman languages, to the migrations and demographic layering that shaped the subcontinent, this episode traces the long and complex roots of Indian history. We also examine how religion in India transformed over time: from Vedic traditions and the rise of Buddhism, Jainism, and Ajivikism, to the emergence of Hinduism in its recognizable form, and the later arrival of Islam, Christianity, Zoroastrianism, and Sikhism. Politically, India was rarely unified under a single empire, yet culturally it remained deeply interconnected through shared sacred spaces, literary traditions, and cosmopolitan languages such as Sanskrit, Pali, and Persian. Rather than a static or monolithic entity, Indian civilization emerges here as an ancient, layered, and ever-changing cultural world—diverse in form, but tied together by enduring networks of exchange, memory, and identity.Illyrians: https://youtu.be/8fDuTqAmo9MThracians: https://youtu.be/5AJW31Q-jg4Dacians: https://youtu.be/dTGGKvsyGYkArabia Before Islam: https://youtu.be/07OsSSt0ytcAncient Origins of the Berbers: https://youtu.be/qMv9Gyc08P8Berber Empires: https://youtu.be/LeArDH86dRUEarly Muslim Expansion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2cEIDZwG5M&list=PLaBYW76inbX6liBZSJNNEyShlv4IsfT3tMuslim Schism: https://youtu.be/-85dXjgMiSUVandals: https://youtu.be/-IpbeEW6I9YThebes - 3d Tour: https://youtu.be/_8vhWNIDPCUMycenae - 3D Tour: https://youtu.be/LBmqBBdfKwEHattusa - 3D Tour of the Hittite Capital: https://youtu.be/CgH4CxQrgRcHow Rome Conquered Greece: https://youtu.be/v5q1rerf-qwDid the Trojan War Really Happen: https://youtu.be/12eHJL2yRtkDemosthenes: https://youtu.be/ABS1iepXG0UAncient Greek Politics and Diplomacy: https://youtu.be/MVnp4NilDLIPyrrhic Wars: https://youtu.be/2QBA6ZPmj3QAncient Macedonia before Alexander the Great and Philip II: https://youtu.be/FXX1FVYysjQDiplomatic Genius of Philip of Macedon: https://youtu.be/yVTrkESkuTwEtruscans: https://youtu.be/FkySjRwUteEAncient Greek State in Bactria: https://youtu.be/IQATsepKoLEThe Greco-Chinese War Over the Heavenly Horses: https://youtu.be/g6Rphg_lwwMAncient Greek Kingdom in India: https://youtu.be/ZxJk4KHZxi8How the Ancient Olympics Were Conducted: https://youtu.be/Fr2Z0Ok2e-4How did the Oracle of Delphi Work?: https://youtu.be/_I0-q-uYul4How the Greeks Colonized the Mediterranean: https://youtu.be/B9HeRf4f7z8How Greece was Christianized: https://youtu.be/x_bf3YszpcwSupport us on Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/KingsandGenerals or Paypal: http://paypal.me/kingsandgenerals or by joining the youtube membership: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMmaBzfCCwZ2KqaBJjkj0fw/join We are grateful to our patrons and sponsors, who made this video possible: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ooKPbpq0z8ciEjz5Zmrga4-gWRmripm0u4BHMkkXHVc/edit?usp=sharingThe video was made by Lito Areta, while the script was developed by Christos Nicolaou, the video was narrated by Liam Taylor.✔ Merch store ► https://teespring.com/stores/kingsandgenerals✔ Patreon ► https://www.patreon.com/KingsandGenerals✔ Podcast ► http://www.kingsandgenerals.net/podcast/✔ PayPal ► http://paypal.me/kingsandgenerals✔ Twitter ► https://twitter.com/KingsGenerals✔ Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/Kings Learn more about your ad choices.
