In this episode of The Demonologist Podcast, Halloween Is Catholic, host Adam Blai explores how Halloween is fundamentally a Catholic Hallowtide celebration. He examines the deep Catholic roots of the season, explaining the meaning of All Hallows' Eve and how it connects All Saints' Day, All Souls' Day, the saints, and the souls in purgatory. Blai traces the etymology of the word “Halloween” back to “hallows” and “evening,” discusses traditional customs such as "souling" and baking soul cakes, and explains how skulls and skeletons once served as traditional memento mori reminders to live wisely and keep eternity in view. Furthermore, he considers harvest traditions and the historical anxieties surrounding the onset of winter, while reviewing modern scholarship that challenges the common misconception that Halloween is purely a druid or pagan religious festival. Ultimately, the episode provides a historically grounded perspective for Christians wondering how to celebrate the season faithfully during Hallowtide, making a strong case for focusing the autumn holidays on remembrance, prayer, and a thoughtful view of death.
