The LRM PodcastShow Notes
In this episode, Martin and Steve are back in the beer tent at LRM Live 2026 for another round of great guests on the Salmon Sofa! Simon from Powerful UK and Russ from Defender Defender are first up to talk old Land Rover problems vs. new Land Rover problems, and how the Defender L663 is becoming a big part of the enthusiast scene despite the parts availability challenges of owning one. The guys talk the logistics of the Ministry of Defence demobbing their entire Land Rover fleet and how the influx of Defenders coming on to the market will evolve and change the fantastic Land Rover culture that continues to thrive and grow. Which rival will get the new MOD contract? Nick Dimbleby returns to the Podcast to talk post-Himalayas life with his Freelander, and seeing the vast spread of Land Rover models throughout the LRM Live event. Steve questions Nick about when the legendary 100-inch wheelbase TEW might see the light of day at an LRM event soon. Haddow Hales-Lavercombe also joins us to talk factory-registered Land Rovers and his involvement with the CVC Register. Plus we get a first-hand account of what it's like to drive a 2.25 diesel Series III for hundreds of miles. Helen Tait Wright joints the boys on the sofa to talk about her experience following on from her Dakar adventure and what the build process was like behind Purdey, her Td5-powered 110. More from The LRM Podcast
In this week's episode, Steve is fresh back from the Ripon Autojumble, where he met some notable Land Rover characters and saw some great vehicles. If you came along, thank you very much, and if (like Martin) you missed out, it's the Malvern Autojumble this Sunday! The boys debate whether Defender L663s are becoming affordable on the used market, and how Grenadiers fit into the current 4x4 landscape. Are you better off building a "classic" Defender 110 with all the bells and whistles, or buying an Ineos? What do you think? Elsewhere, a listener shares their Land Rover story culminating in a successful Land Rover catering business, and the boys answer the question – what is the best do-it-all Land Rover for 15 grand? As always, we love to get your questions and feedback. Be sure to drop us an email on [email protected],uk – enjoy the episode!
In this week's episode, Martin and Steve are back from Newbury Autojumble and are keen to share their buying, selling a spotting stories from the weekend. Elsewhere, Steve's persistent lust for a Range Rover L322 just won't go away, and the pair get stuck into a series of listener's questions – including should you fit Series doors to a Defender? LRM contributor and friend of the show, Greg King, has some invaluable anti-roll bar information, and the guys discuss soundproofing options for Defenders. Can you buy a Land Rover for £1500? A listener puts the boys to work. Got a question, or some feedback for the podcast? Drop an email to [email protected] and enjoy the episode!
In this week's very special episode, long-term LRM contributor Jack Dobson is over from Australia and joins Steve and Martin for a chat about the similarities and differences between Land Rover scenes in the UK and Australia. Jack talks us through his fleet of Series Land Rovers – the majority of which are V8-powered – and tells the tale of how his beloved Series IIA got stolen and reacquainted with him two whole years after it went missing. There's also chat about his mission to restore an 80-inch Series I, including the judgement from some of the more niche chapters of the Land Rover world, and how his choice of paint colour was a not-so-subtle jibe at these attitudes. The gang get distracted by a 130 with a cage on the back, and Jack discloses some of his favourite and most-hated mods for a Series Land Rover. As always, we love to get your questions and feedback, so don't be shy – drop us an email on [email protected] and let your voice be heard. Why not grab a subscription to Land Rover Monthly magazine? In this week's episode, Martin and Steve finally make it to a Tea on the Tailgate meet at Burghley House - they discuss standout Land Rovers, and Steve describes his visit to Halfords. He only went for bulbs, but left with a new Land Rover mate! Elsewhere, Martin answers a listener's question about tools, and the pair talk about the upcoming Newbury autojumble which is on this Sunday! See you there.
In this week's episode, Martin and Steve are on the road in Martin's 2014 Freelander 2 as they head north to film some Land Rover buying guides. The pair get constantly distracted by Land Rovers passing them on the road, discuss Defender L663 roof pods, 4x4s that aren't Land Rovers, tractors and plenty of other Land Rover (and non-Land Rover)-related topics as they make progress up the M6. They chat about the styling and design of the latest crop of Land Rovers and Range Rovers, ogle a very tasty L405 Autobiography and wonder if Gerry McGovern will ever join them for a chat on the podcast. Only time will tell... As always, we love to get your comments, feedback and questions – drop us a line on [email protected] – we love to hear from you. Enjoy the episode!
