Caregiving for your narcissistic mother is hard enough. What makes it even harder is when you add a trauma bonded or enmeshed mother/daughter relationship to the mix which is common with maternal narcissistic abuse. Maternal enmeshment and trauma-bondage create a toxic relationship dynamic that adds to the challenges of recovering from abuse. When caregiving for your narcissistic mother falls on your shoulders in these types of toxic family dynamics everything gets 10X more difficult on you and recovery requires more and more effort. Caregiving for your toxic mother will leave you physically exhausted, anxious, and mentally drained. Doing so with maternal enmeshment and in a trauma-bonded relationship will be even worse. In this episode you will learn:
If you are feeling defeated and exhausted by trying to set boundaries and implementing advice on how to deal with your narcissistic mother's drama there’s a reason – no one told you where you really need to start if you want the rest to work. They haven't told you because most people don’t know this. Most daughters of narcissistic mothers end up jumping to boundary setting and it only results in the escalation of drama. They are fighting a battle they can’t win, not because they are doing it wrong, but because they are starting from the wrong place. Breaking free from dysfunctional family dynamics, from maternal narcissism, from the emotional abuse of an immature mother, is a process that needs energy. Healing mother wound requires energy. Recovering from emotional abuse requires energy. Even recognising the signs of abuse requires energy. But what can you do when your energy is drained by your mother’s toxic behaviour? There’s a way to get you battle-ready, feeling calm and alive, so you can set boundaries that work and create the space to recover and heal the mother wound. The key is your nervous system that has been dealing with the coping patterns from your childhood trauma. That’s where you start. Listen to the episode to learn how you can heal your nervous system and unlock the energy you need to set boundaries and regain control of your life. You deserve it. If you have been parentified as a child you might still be hurting and you shouldn’t have to suffer today because of the toxic family dynamic in your past. Parentification is a toxic family dynamic, common when dealing with narcissistic mothers or with emotionally immature mothers or parents, that puts too much responsibility on the child way too soon inevitably creating childhood trauma. Often cause by childhood emotional neglect alongside immature parents who are unable to take responsibility, parentification is a clear sign of abuse resulting in trauma that is carried by the parentified adult and will manifest in specific comping patterns leaving you only capable of achieving a certain degree of success, far below what you deserve. And despite all that you may have achieved so far in your life, you might still be hurting inside. Patterns such as people-pleasing, perfectionism, extra independence and inability to take a break or delegate will hold you back in every aspect of your life, including your career, relationships, parenting… And in the long run they will also affect your physical and mental health. In this episode I share:
Has your narcissistic mother unleashed flying monkeys on you and you are struggling to stop them? Most daughters of narcissistic mothers do all they can to try and set a boundary. What they don’t know is that flying monkeys are going to be unleashed and the drama will continue. A “No” to a narcissistic mother is often followed by enablers playing the role of flying monkeys. Does this have to be the doom of your boundary? No, it doesn’t. Learning to recognise, protect yourself and stop these flying monkeys is essential for your boundaries to count. And boundaries are necessary for you to recover from abuse and live a peaceful life. In this episode you will learn:
