The Shawshank Redemption — Is It Really a Masterpiece? | Watched Rated Reviewed
Watched Rated ReviewedShow Notes
Welcome to Watched Rated Reviewed Everyone seems to agree that The Shawshank Redemption is one of the greatest movies ever made. It regularly gets called a masterpiece. But… I don't fucking agree. Don't get me wrong — I don't think The Shawshank Redemption is a bad movie. Far from it. But when everyone tells you something is one of the greatest films ever made, eventually you have to ask… Is it actually a masterpiece, or have we just decided that it is? In this episode, I break down The Shawshank Redemption, what works for me, what doesn't, the performances, the story, the emotional moments, and why I personally don't think it deserves the “masterpiece” label. This isn't about saying the movie is shit. It's about having an opinion. And that's what Watched Rated Reviewed is all about. ⚠️ SPOILERS THROUGHOUT 🎬 Movie: The Shawshank Redemption 📅 Year: 1994 ⭐ My Rating: 7/10 Movies. Opinions. No Filter. If you agree, disagree, or think I'm completely fucking wrong — let me know. #TheShawshankRedemption #MovieReview #FilmReview #MoviePodcast #WatchedRatedReviewed #MovieOpinions #FilmPodcast #NoFilter

An empty room. A threat you can’t prove. And nobody believing what’s happening to you. 👁️ For Day 23 of 31 Days of Horror, I’m revisiting Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man — the tense psychological horror that had me staring at empty corners like a fucking idiot. I’m talking Elisabeth Moss, Cecilia’s desperate fight to feel safe, the camera’s use of empty space, and the horror of being disbelieved. From the opening escape to that brutal restaurant scene, this film makes an unseen threat frightening through the control it holds over someone’s life. My rating: 8/10. 31 days. 31 horror movies. Just because you can’t see him doesn’t mean the bastard isn’t there. 🎬 Watched Rated Reviewed 🎃 Watched Rated Reviewed x LatestBuy Get 5% off selected collections with code WATCHEDRV. I liked Oasis’s music. I never liked the brothers. Then this documentary made me rethink everything. In this episode of Watched Rated Reviewed, I share why Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger earned a 10/10 from its stunning concert footage and archive material to the fans whose love for this band pours through the screen. I talk about the goosebumps of seeing Liam and Noel walk out together, the humour and affection between them, and the community built around songs that have helped people through their hardest days. Plus, massive Oasis fan Marc shares his perspective in a recorded contribution. An honest, sweary review about music, family, and a film that left me smiling. Explicit language.
A murder house. A box of home movies. And a projector that needs to be switched the fuck off. 🎞️ For Day 22 of 31 Days of Horror, I’m revisiting Scott Derrickson’s Sinister — the disturbing supernatural nightmare that makes a grainy family recording feel like something you were never meant to find. I’m talking Ethan Hawke, Ellison’s dangerous obsession, the Super 8 films, the unsettling sound, and Bughuul lurking in the background. From that fucking lawnmower scene to the price Ellison’s family pays for his ambition, this film turns curiosity into a seriously bad decision. My rating: 8/10. 31 days. 31 horror movies. Some home movies should stay in the fucking box. 🎬 Watched Rated Reviewed 🎃 Watched Rated Reviewed x LatestBuy Get 5% off selected collections with code WATCHEDRV. A frightened boy. A secret nobody understands. And a film that can still break your fucking heart when you know the twist. 👻 For Day 21 of 31 Days of Horror, I’m revisiting M. Night Shyamalan’s The Sixth Sense — the supernatural mystery whose emotional punch deserves just as much attention as its famous ending. I’m talking Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette, the unsettling encounters, and the clues waiting on a rewatch. From Cole’s fear of being misunderstood to that conversation with his mum in the car, this film gives me far more than a clever reveal. My rating: 9/10. 31 days. 31 horror movies. Seeing dead people is terrifying. Carrying it alone is fucking heartbreaking. 🎬 Watched Rated Reviewed 🎃 Watched Rated Reviewed x LatestBuy Get 5% off selected collections with code WATCHEDRV. An isolated farm. A family falling apart. And a goat I wouldn’t fucking trust. 🐐 For Day 20 of 31 Days of Horror, I’m revisiting Robert Eggers’ The Witch — the slow-burning folk-horror nightmare where faith, fear and suspicion make home feel as dangerous as the woods. I’m talking Anya Taylor-Joy’s Thomasin, the oppressive atmosphere, the period dialogue, and the family’s growing desperation. From the baby’s disappearance to Black Phillip’s unsettling presence, this film lets dread build as every tragedy becomes another accusation. It asks for patience, but watching this household turn against itself got properly under my skin. My rating: 8/10. 31 days. 31 horror movies. Whatever the goat offers, read the fucking small print. 🎬 Watched Rated Reviewed 🎃 Watched Rated Reviewed x LatestBuy Get 5% off selected collections with code WATCHEDRV.
