1001 Radio Days Show Notes – Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar: "The Shankar Diamond Matter" & "The Blue Madonna Matter" THE SHANKAR DIAMOND MATTER In this globe‑trotting Johnny Dollar adventure, the "man with the action‑packed expense account" is called in to investigate the disappearance of a legendary jewel — the Shankar Diamond, a stone so valuable and so steeped in rumor that its name alone can start trouble. When the diamond vanishes under suspicious circumstances, Johnny finds himself navigating a maze of international intrigue, double‑crosses, and high‑stakes deception. Every lead seems to point in a different direction, and every witness has something to hide. As Johnny digs deeper, he discovers that the diamond's history is as dangerous as the people trying to possess it. "The Shankar Diamond Matter" is classic Dollar: sharp, atmospheric, and filled with the kind of twists that made the series one of radio's finest detective dramas. THE BLUE MADONNA MATTER Johnny Dollar's next case takes him into the world of fine art — and fine fraud — when an insurance company calls him in to investigate the theft of a rare and priceless painting known as The Blue Madonna. What begins as a simple recovery job quickly turns into a layered mystery involving forged canvases, shady dealers, and a trail of clues that leads Johnny from quiet galleries to the darker corners of the art underworld. The suspects are polished, charming, and dangerous, and the painting itself seems to carry a curse for anyone who tries to profit from it. As Johnny pieces together the truth, he uncovers a scheme far more elaborate than a simple theft. "The Blue Madonna Matter" showcases the series at its best — a smart, stylish detective story where every detail matters and every lie has a price.
