Born on the Fourth of July and named after the Western legend, John Wayne Walding lost his right leg in the Battle of Shok Valley, one of the most intense firefights since Vietnam. He tied it off with a tourniquet and kept fighting for hours until every one of his brothers made it off the mountain alive.
But the war was only the beginning. John woke up the next morning with one leg and a choice: be a victim or be a victor. He chose to never quit. He ran the Boston Marathon on a hand cycle, became the first amputee to requalify as a Green Beret sniper, got 14 years sober, and surrendered his life to Christ. In this conversation he shares the warrior mindset that carried him off that mountain and now drives his faith, and the conviction he lives by every single day: I owe it to the fallen to live well.
