#239 Thomas Herman — The Wakeboarder Who Landed the Impossible Triple Flip
Good Humans with Cooper ChapmanShow Notes
This week on the Good Humans Podcast I’m joined by professional wakeboarder Thomas Herman, one of the most progressive riders the sport has ever seen. Thomas has been ranked as high as World No. 2 and made history as the first and only wakeboarder to land a triple flip behind a boat. It’s one of those moments that completely changed what people believed was possible in wakeboarding.
In this conversation we dive into Thomas’s journey growing up in the US, how he got into wakeboarding, and the mindset it takes to keep pushing the limits of a sport where progression often means attempting tricks no one has ever landed before.
We talk about the story behind the triple flip, the pressure of competing at the highest level, and how he manages fear when the consequences of mistakes can be huge. Thomas is someone who truly embodies progression, courage and dedication to his craft, and I loved hearing about the mindset that has allowed him to reach the very top of his sport.
In this episode we cover: • Thomas’s journey into professional wakeboarding • What it took to become World No. 2 • The story behind landing the first ever triple flip behind a boat • The mental side of pushing limits in extreme sports • How he handles fear, pressure and progression
A powerful conversation about backing yourself, pushing boundaries and chasing what’s possible.

I loved this one. Alexis has spent over a decade inside marketing, media and PR, so she knows exactly how our attention gets engineered. And she’s honest enough to call herself a tech addict too. Her new book Real: Reconnecting to Yourself in a World of Likes and Lies is three years in the making, and it’s all about how social media messes with who we think we are, and how to take that back. If you’ve ever closed an app feeling worse about yourself, this one’s for you.
This was a fascinating chat. Dr Joy Kong started out as a psychiatrist and addiction doctor before becoming one of the leading voices in stem cell therapy. She’s UCLA-trained, triple board-certified, and the founder of Chara Health in Los Angeles and the American Academy of Integrative Cell Therapy, where she trains doctors around the world. Joy cuts through the hype and tells it straight about what stem cells can and can’t do, and why she thinks we might be the first generation to reverse ageing. If you’re curious about longevity and where medicine is heading, you’ll love this one.
This week I sat down with Chris Mater, and this one is a masterclass in building a career by backing yourself at every turn.
