What Is a Pain Coach? Why Chronic Pain Doesn't Improve with More Treatments Alone
Autoimmune Rehab: Real Stories of Resilience and Healing: How I Healed My Autoimmune Disorder and You Can TooShow Notes
If you've tried everything for chronic pain and still feel stuck, this conversation may change how you think about healing. In this episode, I sit down with Alex Crowther to answer a question many people are quietly asking: what is a pain coach, and how is this different from traditional pain management? Alex explains how pain coaching helps people move beyond symptom-chasing and into true nervous system regulation, emotional resilience, and long-term relief. We explore why pain often persists even after surgeries, medications, or physical therapy—and what's actually missing from the conversation. You'll learn: What a pain coach does (and doesn't do) Why chronic pain is not "just physical" How mindset, safety, and the nervous system influence pain Who pain coaching is for—and who benefits most Why more treatments don't always equal more healing If you live with chronic pain, autoimmune symptoms, or unexplained discomfort and feel dismissed or exhausted by the medical system, this episode offers clarity, validation, and hope. 🎧 Listen in to discover what a pain coach really is—and why this approach is helping people reclaim their lives when nothing else has worked. For more than three decades, Alex Crowther built a global career as an advertising executive, leading billion-dollar accounts, managing international teams, and operating at the highest levels of corporate life. His world revolved around performance, pressure, and achievement. Success was measured in results, and for years he lived entirely in that rhythm of constant motion. Everything changed when chronic pain entered his life. What began as a physical injury spiraled into years of relentless pain that no doctor, medication, or procedure could resolve. Eventually diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, often called "the suicide disease," Alex was forced to confront the limits of his own endurance. The experience dismantled the identity he had built and brought him face-to-face with the question of what truly matters. Rather than succumb, Alex made a decision: if pain was going to stay, it had to have a purpose. That moment marked the beginning of his transformation. He began studying the neuroscience of pain, the psychology of healing, and the power of human connection. He became a Reiki Master and an initiated Shaman, blending science and spirituality to understand how the mind, body, and spirit interact in healing. Today, Alex serves as the CEO of Pain Coach Academy, the world's premier training organization for board-certified pain coaches. He leads a movement to redefine how society understands and treats chronic pain, empowering both individuals and professionals to help others calm the nervous system, retrain the brain, and rebuild lives of meaning. His upcoming book, Reframing Pain: Understanding Pain in Everyday Terms, captures this work. It explains how pain is created and sustained by the brain, and how awareness, education, and compassion can quiet it. Through his leadership, writing, and speaking, Alex's mission is simple yet profound: to reduce needless suffering and show that purpose is more powerful than pain. In doing so, his goal is to train 10,000 coaches and help in excess of a million people living with complicated pain. https://www.paincoachacademy.com Schedule a 1 hour pick my brain session to get personalized help and resources. https://tidycal.com/annalaurabrown/coaching-session My youtube channel with videos of this podcast and more. https://youtube.com/c/annalaurabrownhealthcoach Check out my essential oils membership and coaching and schedule a free consultation. http://essentialwellnesscircle.com Request a free foundations of wellness kit: https://forms.gle/jBoGuUSNJebET77B6 Watch my free 3 steps to an autoimmune energy reset: https://annalaurabrown.com/autoimmune-energy-webinar/

Could the health of the soil your food is grown in affect your autoimmune health? In this episode, I'm joined by Pat Miletich to explore the often-overlooked connection between Soil Health and Quality and autoimmune disease. We discuss how soil depletion, agricultural practices, and the nutritional quality of our food may influence inflammation and overall health—and why paying attention to where our food comes from could be an important part of supporting the body when dealing with autoimmune challenges. If you're struggling with autoimmune symptoms despite trying to eat healthy, this conversation offers a different perspective on a factor that is often overlooked: the health of the soil behind the food on your plate. Pat Miletich was sick his entire childhood. While doctors offered little, he went looking for answers on his own, and what he found changed everything. That research became the foundation for a UFC championship and a coaching legacy that produced 12 MMA world champions. The connection between what goes into the body and what comes out in performance was never theoretical for Pat. He lived it, tested it on world-class athletes, and built a system around it. Today that same investigation points to the land itself. His work with Soil Saviors connects what is missing from depleted soil to what is missing from the food we grow and the bodies we live in. For gardeners and homesteaders trying to grow real food without chemicals, Pat's message hits like a light switch. He is not selling a trend. He is explaining a 40-year chain of cause and effect that most people have never heard laid out this clearly. Why Your Diet Isn't Fixing Your Autoimmune Symptoms You've cut out gluten. You've cleaned up your diet. Maybe you've eliminated dairy, sugar, processed foods—or followed an autoimmune-friendly eating plan for months. So why are you still dealing with fatigue, inflammation, brain fog, digestive issues, or other autoimmune symptoms? In this solo episode of Autoimmune Rehab, we're talking about why diet, while important, may not be the whole answer. I'll break down the other pieces that can influence how you feel—from stress and sleep to movement, digestion, nutrient status, environmental factors, and the way you approach your overall healing routine. I'll also explain why constantly adding more food restrictions can sometimes leave you feeling overwhelmed without actually addressing what your body needs. If you've been doing "everything right" with your diet but still don't feel better, this episode will help you look beyond your plate and think about autoimmune wellness from a more complete perspective.
