You cannot tell the story of Brittanee Drexel without telling the story of Timothy Da'Shaun Taylor. Law enforcement came tantalizingly close in 2011 to arresting Brittanee Drexel's kidnapper and killer, but local investigators were unable to put the last few pieces of the puzzle together at that time. Years later, a fantastical story from a questionable source drew attention away from the real suspect. Suddenly Tim Taylor and his family found themselves trapped in the python-like squeeze of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. And it wasn't the first time something like this happened to their family. In this episode, join host Anne Emerson for Part 2 and more of our exclusive conversation with Tim Taylor and his mother, Joan. Listen as they relive the chain of events that made them Public Enemy No. 1 in the eyes of many across their own community, their home state and beyond. ~~~~~~~~~~ Finding Brittanee Drexel is a documentary podcast from WCIV’s Edward R. Authorities in May 2022 finally arrested the serial rapist responsible for Brittanee Drexel's death, solving a murder and kidnapping case that cast a shadow over the state of South Carolina nearly 15 years. But the frustrating part is detectives came agonizingly close to solving the case 11 years earlier, and even identified the suspecT: Raymond Douglas Moody. In this episode you'll hear the horrific 2011 interview investigators conducted with Angel Vause, Moody's girlfriend, as they tried to determine if Moody's history of violent sexual assaults in California was "starting again" in his native South Carolina — with deadly consequences for Brittanee Drexel. Also, you'll get the reason law enforcement officers say they ultimately weren't able to charge Moody with Drexel's death back in 2011, setting the stage for the false accusations and public railroading of Timothy Taylor and his family. Look for other interviews with Moody's boyfriend in prison who returned with him to Georgetown after being paroled, and the lead detective whose fresh eyes on Brittanee's case brought led police to the right suspect at the wrong time. ~~~~~~~~~~ Finding Brittanee Drexel is a documentary podcast from WCIV’s Edward R.
